Wingham Advance _Times
The recent announcement by the
province regarding the phasing out
of grants under the Municipal Outlet
Drainage' rogram. while increasing
loan limits under the Tile Loan
Program, was not greeted as
welcome news among area
municipalities.
North Huron council discussed
the matter briefly during the Aug. 3
meeting. Reeve Doug Layton
suggested "sending a letter - a
strongly-worded letter - to the
Ministry (of Agriculture and Food)"
asking for reinstatement of the
grants. •
Councillor Archie MacGowan
said the decision was made without
any consultation. "It appears to be a
bureaucratic decision, not a political
one," he said. -
***
North Huron municipal
employees will have a little extra in
their pay envelopes for going six
months accident-free. It will be a
small token -- perhaps a $5 gift
certificate. The idea, as discussed by
council, is to thank staff for working
safely, without , providing
encouragement for not reporting
accidents.
***
The tree inventory being
conducted in North Huron
(Wingham ward) has almost been
completed, Councillor Archie
MacGowan reported to council.
So far, 1,305 trees have been
inventoried along road allowances.
Parks will be done next. Of the
1,305 trees. 697 -are hard maples,
MacGowan said. Trees are being
inventoried as to species. •
