Home away from home
Auburn Riverside Retreat has just begun its second season under new ownership. The park,
originally named Four Seasons was created from lush grasslands nestled along the Maitland
River some 30 years ago by Pete Glen. Wayne and Marie Scott, both with lifelong ties to the
community have given the campground a new look and name. Wayne's family is from the
Auburn area, while Marie's father, Bill Ferguson was born and raised there. Her grandfather
had a carriage shop in Auburn and her uncle owned a funeral home. Prior to purchasing
Riverside Retreat, the Scotts operated an elk farm just a few miles outside the hamlet. (Bonnie

Explore all the beauty nature has
to offer while experiencing the
adventure of rustic outdoor camping
in Auburn.
Located on County Road 25
between Goderich and Blyth.
Auburn Riverside Retreat, family
campground, offers something for
the adventurius and the not-so-
adventurous throughout it's 97 acres
of land.
Beginning their second season,
owners Wayne and Marie Scott of
. Auburn have about 90 "roomy" sites
along the 4,000 feet of Maitland
River that runs throughout the
campground.
It was originally used as a cattle-
grazing field until Pete Glenn
transformed the land into a scenic
campground, owning and operating
it for close to 25 years.
When the time came to sell.
Sandra and Bruce Grimmer
purchased the land and continued the
maintenance of the campground
which was known as Brandy's
Hideaway Campground for about 10
years.
Two years ago, the Scotts bought it
and began making some
renovations.
The Scotts, who owned an elk
farm near Carlow for almost 20
years, have been busy building a
three-and-a-half acre fence so they
can add elk to the grounds, giving
campers one more things to see on
their adventures.
