Morris-Turnberry briefs
Council hears road allowance concerns
During the July 6 Morris-
Turnberry council meeting, deputy
mayor Bill Thompson and
councillors Lynn Hoy and Neil
Warwick, declared a pecuniary
interest for the tax refunds.
Thompson and Hoy were both
listed on the refund list as was
Warwick's brother.

Council approved a $688,762.95
payment in the general accounts and
a $55.52 payment for the park
account.

Ida Martin attended to express her
concerns over the unopened road
allowance at Lot 20-21. Conc. 1 in
Morris Twp.
Councillors agreed that the fence
viewers should go to that sideroad to
make a new award for the unopened
road allowance and that the fence be
placed on the east portion of the
road.
Council had no objections using
the unopened road allowance for
access. However the municipality
will not spend public funds to
improve or maintain the road
allowance.
They also decided that a sign be
erected as recommended by Martin
to declare that the road was
unassumed by the municipality, as
recommended by a solicitor.

Charlie and Georgina Johnston
expressed their concerns about the
unopened road allowance for Lot 28,
Conc. I in Turnberry Twp.
Council agreed to the same
conditions as with Martin and had
no objections to using the unopened
road allowance as persuant to the
solicitor.

STRAWBERRY WAFFLES
2 cups sifted flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
2 tbsp. sugar
3 eggs, separated
2 1/4 cups milk
1/4 cup melted shortening
Sift flour, baking powder, sugar
into a bowl. Combine beaten yolks,
milk and shortening, stir into dry
ingredients. Fold in stiffly-beaten
egg whites.
Bake on hot oiled waffle iron.
Strawberry Sauce:
Crush one pint rinsed strawberries.
Whip 1/2 cup whipping cream and 1
tbsp. icing sugar. Cover waffles with
sauce. Top with cream.

Council accepted a tender for
Clyde Line from Hard Rock Paving
for pulverizing with a bid of 46 cents
per metric tonne.
They also accepted Joe Kerr's
tender for five-eight inch granular A
gravel for $3.40 per metric tonne
and a paving tender submitted by
Lavis Contracting for $49.27 per
metric tonne.

The quote from Harold Jacobs for
scrap removal at the landfill site was
accepted by council at a bid of $30 a
ton and a charge for Freon removal
of $20 a ton.

Mac Phatter Group Inc. in
Teeswater submitted a quote for tire
removal at the landfill sites which
was accepted by counillors.
The rates include $2 for passenger
tires, $4 tires on the rim, $2 for
lightweight truck tires -and $5 for
tires on the rim. Implement tires cost
$8, truck tires cost $10 and $15 for
on tires on the rim, grader tires
costing $35 and agricultural tires
$1.50 per rim inch.

Councillor Jim Nelemans asked
council when and if the Turnberry
pit will be completed and if it isn't,
would it be sold by auction.
Kelly said that a decision has not
yet been made, but it is "hoped that
the property is seeded this fall and
ready for sale in the spring."

Council approved the 2004 tax
rebates as submitted on the listing
which was dated June 30 and the
2003 vacancy refunds were also
approved as submitted on the June
28 list.
1/2 cup shortening
pinch of salt
1 cup boiling water
1 cup sifted flour
3 eggs
Add shortening and salt to boiling
water. Bring back to the boil. Lower
heat, add flour all at once and stir
vigorously until mixture leaves the
sides of the pan. Remove from heat
and add one egg at a time, beating
vigorously after each addition. Drop
by tablespoon onto an ungreased
cookie sheet. Bake in 450°F oven for
20 minutes; lower heat to 350°F for
20 minutes.
Cook on a rack.
Fresh Strawberry filling:
Cut puffs in half. Fill with
sweetened sliced strawberries. Put
on puff top. Spoon on sweetened
whipped cream.
STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKES
1 qt. rinsed strawberries
5 cups milk
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup cream
2 1/2 tsp. lemon juice
Combine all in a blender jar to mix
thoroughly. Chill well before
serving. Serves 8-10.

consent application for Northern
Cross Pipelines in North Huron
Twp.

Council agreed that the
municipality will sponsor the
meeting room as well as coffee and
muffins at the Wingham Golf Club
for $50 on July 23 for the clerks and
CBO meeting.

Payment for the Nevada ticket
lottery licence for the Wingham
Lions Club was approved with a
license fee of $267.60.

Council approved the request to
purchase two computers costing
$2,290 each and optional service for
delivery and setup at the quoted
price of $600.

FROM CRANBROOK
Marion Harrison, Shirley and
Adrian Verstoep, Edna McLellan
and Neil Hatt hosted the Cranbrook
card party on Friday night.
The share-the-wealth winners
were Mary Davidson and Edna
McLellan. The high scores went to
Helen Dobson and Allan Edgar.
Isabelle Craig and Eluned McNair
Councillors decided to print
picture name badges for all council,
staff and emergency groups. The
badges for council and road
employees will be printed in wallet
size.

In compliance with the drinking
water regulations, a response letter
was submitted to council from the
minister of the environment. This
information will be further
investigated and presented to
council at a later date.

Blue boxes will be delivered to
each household in Turnberry , at no
charge.

Councillor Edna McLellan told
council that she has been
' approached by local residents
regarding the traffic speed on
Amberly Road (formerly Hwy. 86)
were not so lucky. Ladies tied for
lone hands were Mary Huether,
Mary Davidson, Yvonne Knight and
Viola Adams. Adrian Verstoep had
the most lone hands for the men.
The tally card winners were Lloyd
Weber, Myrna Burnett, Leota
Thompson, Neil Hatt, Eleanor
Stevenson, Ross Stephenson,
Isabelle Bremner and Jeanne
Ireland. Leslie Knight won the
travelling lone hand priie. The next
card party will be on Aug. 6.
On Sunday Leslie and Yvonne
Knight were at the First Lutheran
Church, Logan for the baptism of
Jaimison Badley, the daughter of
Jeff and Angela.
On Monday Elisa Knight started a
holiday with her grandparents
Leslie and Yvonne Knight.
Joanne, Weldon, Andrew and
Allison Black are visiting friends
and relatives in the area too.
Celebrating anniversaries this
month are Bruce and Rhonda
Fischer, Ken and Lynda Smith and
Fred and Karen Uhler. Birthday
wishes go to Jessica Bentley and
Richard Minielly on July 22, Kent
Bray, July 23 and Carmen Smith,
July 24.
