THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JULY 22, 2004. PAGE 7.
We send out speedy recovery
wishes to Glenda Morrison who is
home recovering from surgery.
We are thankful that Mike Boven
suffered no injuries in an accident
last week. Unfortunately, his truck
suffered fatal injuries and a different
Boven Carpentry truck will soon be
on the road.
We were happy to see Gerald and
Joan Miller from Alberta return
home to the Brussels area for a visit
with family and friends. They were
here for three weeks and had a
wonderful time with the
grandchildren, attending wedding
anniversary celebrations and
catching up with did friends.
Here visiting from Kindersley,
Saskatchewan were Stuart and
Joanne Courts. They enjoyed lunch
at the home of Marie Coutts, who
also hosted Glenn and Eleanor
Coutts, Bayfield, Cliff and Marion
Huffman. Walton and Jean Wilbee

With the doubts of some
councillors satisfied, Huron County
council approved the move of the
county's social services department
of Seaforth, all cousins of Stuart.
They visited the cemetery and
attended a family reunion while in
the area.
Reaching the ripe old age of 40
was John Huether. Lisa hosted a
small gathering of friends. It was a
nice evening of music, food and fun.
Steven and Kathy Huether had
company on the weekend who
attended John's party with them. It
was an associate from Steve's
workplace who has just come to
Canada from Russia. Antone and
Olga are residing in Toronto. They
are from Moscow. Both are fluent in
English.
It was a pleasure to meet and talk
with this young couple.
We welcome BobbyJo Halley and
girls to the former Shortreed house
in Walton. They moved in on the
weekend and we hope they enjoy
living in Walton.
Duff's United Church is still on
holidays for the rest of July. The
fundraising committee met again to
try and put some finishing touches
to the birthday calendars that they
are going to have for sale this fall.
The catering committee is also
getting ready for a shower for
Charmaine (Sherry) Baan that is on
Sunday at 8 p.m.
The Walton Brewers travelled to
Wroxeter to face the Rippers on
Friday night. It was a .battle of the
from Goderich to a renovated
portion of the former Huronview
complex.
Council approved a motion that
the renovation of the Jacob
Memorial Building proceed to
accommodate the move of the
bats with a final score of Wroxeter
11 and the Brewers 10.
Larry Lowes and Scott Leonhardt
shared the pitching duties and the
loss.
Having a successful night batting
was Darryl Houston who went four
for four at the plate. Scott McDonald
crushed the ball for the only
homerun for the Brewers.
The Brewers are still top of the
league with a 10 and three record.
They host the Exeter Braves on
Tuesday evening at 8:30 p.m.
Congratulations to Lorraine Blake
who graduated from Cambrian
College in Sudbury. Travelling to
attend the convocation ceremony in
Sudbury were her mom and dad, Jim
and Evelyn Blake on May 28. She
graduated from the three-year
program of physical fitness and
leisure management business
course.
The Blakes hosted a graduation
party at their home on Sunday for
over 30 family and friends to
celebrate Lorraine's achievement.
She is going to live in London and is
employed at Good Life Fitness on
Wonderland Road as an elite trainer.
Congrats to Lorraine.
An update on Mary Bernard's
accident: the badly-bruised foot has
turned out to be broken, so she will
be sporting a cast for a few weeks. It
seems being my friend is becoming
department.
The issue had raised considerable
discussion at the June committee of
the whole meeting before being
approved 15-3 in a recorded vote.
Two of those opposed, Goderich
councillors Deb Shewfelt and Ellen
Connelly said they had since visited
the site and were satisfied with the
move.
"I certainly understand why
you're doing what you're doing,"
Connelly said.
But both she and Shewfelt worried
that the remote location, south of
Clinton, could be a problem for
some social services clients who
have no means of transportation.
"We're making it harder for
people to get there," Shewfelt said,
"but I do think the project should
move ahead." '
Connelly said that even once you
leave Hwy. 4 south of Clinton, it's
still a long way to the Jacob
Memorial Building. •
Meanwhile Bluewater councillor
Paul Klopp wanted assurance that
the budget for the renovation project
would be tightly controlled. "I want
to have a better process than the last
major project: the ambulance
stations," he said. "We need to be
tough about that."
Joe Seili of Huron East said staff
would recognize that there are more
"watchdogs" on council now to
make sure there won't be cost
overruns.

dangerous with both Judy Lee and
Mary with broken feet.
Returning home a little early from
a motorcycle trip to the east coast
are Don and Pat Nolan. It seems
that Don has a broken knee. We
hope he is recovering.
The garden fairies and Good
Samaritans have been out and about
at Judy Lee's. Patty and Cassandra
Banks and Heidi McClure offered to
clean up the flowerbeds to help Judy
out because of her broken foot.
What an excellent example of
generosity and community spirit.
Good job girls, they look wonderful.
Celebrating birthdays last week
were Gloria Love, Andrea Bremner,
Jackie Glanville, Gary Godkin,
LeeAnn Konarski, Steve Baan,
Sharon Godkin, Kelly Boven,
