FROM BLYTH
N. Huron
council
pays to
stop
vandalism
By Bonnie Gropp
Citizen editor
It's on the books. North Huron
council is willing to pay to put a
stop to vandalism in the township.
At the Monday night meeting of
council, reeve Doug Layton spoke
about a recent attack at Riverside
Park in which serveral small trees
were cut down, and about the
damage done in Blyth the previous
week.
"It's getting to the point of being
ridiculous." said Layton. He asked
council to consider a reward for any
information leading to the arrest of
people damaging property in North
Huron.
"I think we should spearhead
something."
Councillor Archie MacGowan
agreed, noting that volunteers spend
countless hours on projects only to
see them destroyed.
With council setting the reward at
$500. MacGowan added. "The
damage does add up quickly. To
stop it. it won't take long to recoup
$500."
Come out and support our local
vendors at the farmers' market. It will
run on Saturday, July 24 from 1 p.m.
until 4:30 p.m. at the corner of
Dinsley and Queen Streets beside the
Old town office. The farmers' market
was a success despite the rain last
• week with many different items from
vegetables to baking and knitted
items for sale.
Helen Stonehouse of Belgrave is a
patient in Wingham and District
Hospital. We wish her a speedy
recovery
Congratulations to Kevin and
Deanna Ritchie on their marriage last
Saturday. July 17. Even though the,
rain caused many changes, good
times were had by all.
Congratulations to Avon Cornell on
a very special birthday this past

North Huron clerk-administrator
John Stewart updated council at its
Monday night meeting on the
township's hopes of hosting the 2006
national RV association camp-
vention.
Stewart said he and director of
recreation/facilities Dan Cousins met
with members of the Threshers
Association regarding the campers
association's need for more sites. Joe
Hallahan of the Threshers was
present to show council his group's
plans for future expansion.
Blyth is competing with Markham
for the opportunity to host the event.
Stewart said that Aug. 27 and 28
the RV association's board will be
week.
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, July 11 was 011ie Craig.
Guest pianist was Kim (Craig)
Hornyak.
The choir anthem was Jesus is Lord
of All.
The Hebrew scripture reading was
from Amos 8: 1-12. Psalm 52 was
read responsively, led by 011ie Craig.
Rev. Bannerman's message to the
adults was Seven Days to Spiritual
coming to Blyth to hear a formal
presentation. "Hopefully we can pull
everything together. The breaking
point is going to be if we can't get
those 800 services sites," said
Stewart.
Currently there are 500 serviced
sites at the campground.
Councillor Murray Nesbitt noted
that the costs to meet the needs of the
group may in the long run be worth
it. "With the dollars this could
generate getting those sites serviced
could be the way to go."
One thing in Blyth's favour was
the fact that its fire department isfirst
response. Also, the fact that two
hospitals are roughly 15 minutes
away was also a plus.
"We are a small town but we can
get anything they want," said
Fitness. Monday, do acts of kindness.
Tuesday, surprise someone.
Wednesday, revisit a Bible. Thursday,
experience the wonder and beauty of
nature. Friday, have some quiet time
for yourself. Saturday, count your
blessings and write them down.
Sunday, attend a service of worship
and thanksgiving.
During the offering a trio of Kim
and Mark Hornyak and Bodie Craig
sang A Gift of Love.
Gladioli on
sale soon
During the month of August,
gladioli are sold throughout Canada
to heighten public recognition and
understanding of epilepsy.
The Give Light and Dreams
Campaign was introduced by Beth
Parker, a woman living with epilepsy,
in 1982. All dollars raised remain in
our local community.
Locally the campaign is Thursday,
Aug. 12 and Friday, Aug. 13 at
Scrimgeour's Food Market in Blyth.

Stewart.
Letters of support are being sought
from organizations, churches, etc.
"If we don't get it, it won't be
because we're not trying. We are
giving it our best shot," said Stewart.
