Caring, United Church message
FROM LONDESBORO
Take Time to Care, was the
message brought by Rev. Pat Cook
to Londesborough United Church on
Sunday. July 4.
During the children's time. Rev.
Cook spoke about all the little things
people can do, like getting someone
a drink of water, that show one cares
for others. These minor acts help
share the good news that Jesus loves
everyone.
In the responsive psalm, Psalm 66,
David speaks of all God's blessings
to the people of Israel and the
wonderful new land into which He
brought them. The gospel reading,
Luke 10: 1-11, 16-20 tells of Christ
choosing 70 new disciples. He
commissioned them to go out two by
two to teach and heal in His name; to
share the good news of God's love.
Rev. Cook's sermon used the story of
Naaman found in II Kings 5: 1-14 to
show how ordinary persons can
make a difference.
Naaman was a very powerful
general in the army of the king of
Syria. But, he had leprosy. A slave
girl suggested to him that the
prophet, Elisha, in Israel could heal
him. Naaman's king, who wanted to,
but couldn't help Naaman, sent him
to the king of Israel. This king was
Louis Voyer, of the Christian
Transportation Group out of Toronto
will be the guest speaker on Sunday,
July 18 at the outdoor service at the
Fellowship Bible Chapel. For
musical enjoyment comes the John
Lewis Quartet from Kitchener-
Waterloo.
The Londesborough Happy Gang
Seniors had 18 1/2 tables of euchre
players at their card party on Friday,
July 9 at the Londesborough
Community Hall.
Couples winning first and second
place that evening were separated by
only one point. With 82 points Reta
Flynn and Lorna Ellis were followed
by Glen and Eileen Sellers scoring
81 points. Bob Regele and Bill
Siemon placed third with 77
points.
When the points were tallied there
was a tie for most successful lone
hands between couples Lois and
Evelyn Christensen and Henry
Klaver and Gerald Tenhag. Share-
the-wealth winners were Marilyn
Forbes, Wayne Robinson, Dennis
Penfound and Lillian Appleby.
The seniors will hold their next
card party on Aug. 13.
In a small community like
Londesborough it is reassuring when
one family moves from our midst
that we can quickly welcome a new
unable to help as well.
Naaman decided to visit Elisha
who sent a lowly messenger to
Naaman with his directions.
Discouraged, Naaman was ready to
return home unhealed when a soldier
convinced him he had nothing to lose
by following Elisha's directions.
So, Naaman "went and bathed in
the River Jordan seven times, a
simple act, and was healed.
Rev. Cook said, it is not always
easy to follow the simple things in
life, to do the little acts which make
a difference. These things go
unnoticed in a world of flair and
one to that house. And it is a real
bonus that the newcomers also
intend to restart a former business.
Jeff Zehr and Emma Walder have
moved into the house recently
vacated by - the Ward family.
Dwayne, who is almost five, and
Madeline, two, will also soon have a
new wee sibling as well.
The family comes from Kitchener
where Jeff has five years experience
with welding and metal fabricating.
He expects to open J C Zehr Welding
in the former welding building by
Aug. 1. He can be contacted at 523-
9384.
I trust you will make this family
feel welcome in the commu-
nity.
If I were in the weather forecasting
business, I would have warned you
that the past weekend could be hot
and steamy. After all, it was Molson
Indy weekend in Toronto. In 18
years of attendance, we have never
had race day marred by rain. Now it
has not always been so hot, but
always sunny.
For those of you who occasionally
check car race results, you recognize
that the driver who wins the pole
position, and/or survives the first
corner of the race, more and more
often wins the race. It was not
always so. However over the years
the technology has levelled the
playing field. Cars are better, faster
and safer.
What this means to the general
driving public is that what is leameu
noise. But God wants all to humble
themselves to find healing and
revival. Naaman was haled by
ordinary persons who took time to
care. Obedience in the simple things
will show how God loves the whole
world, she said.
The flowers on the memorial stand
that morning were placed in memory
of Jack Snell by his family.

The Huron-Perth Ontario Stewardship Ranger program as
part of the Ministry of Natural Resources got underway in
Blyth last week as area students will spend the summer
working in community gardens throughout Huron and Perth
Counties. Crew leader Carl Prey said the program offers
students a summer of experience and education by learning
the importance of natural resources while helping their
community. Students Craig Lovette and Jordan Scott began
working at the Memory Garden in Blyth by transplanting
plants, laying plastic walkway dividers and pulling weeds
and will also go for nature hikes and take a tour of a
naturally-planted forest. (Elyse DeBruyn photo)
