New faces attend Legion supper At the Branch By Jo-Ann McDonald The Friday night supper of ham and scalloped potatoes at the Brussels Legion was enjoyed by over 45 diners. It was a great mix of regular diners and some new faces. We welcome anyone to attend. This week is Sandra Josling's famous goulash. That's always popular. The fish fry crew was off to Stratford on Saturday to serve up dinner to 170 hungry fish lovers. On duty this time were John and Julie Harrison, Eric Ross and Deb Trollope and Pete Exel. They were busy but got the job done. Great work folks. The Branch has been asked to provide the food at the beer gardens at the August long weekend fastball tournament. We will need lots of people to help, so call Jo-Ann to volunteer for a shift. We send out get-well wishes to Comrade Alf Sutton who has been a patient in Listowel hospital. It's still business as usual at Snedden Insurance Brokers Ltd. in both Brussels and Stratford. Although there may be some confusion regarding the story about the merge between Maitland Valley Financial and Sholdice Insurance printed in the June 17 issue of the The Citizen, Snedden Insurance Brokers Ltd. has not changed its insurance company and will continue to serve the both communities with their 20 years of experience. Snedden specializes in farm, commercial, property and automobile insurance. In 1993, Snedden Insurance bought Maitland Valley Insurance, then in 2002, Snedden sold their Stratford and Brussels operations to the DKC Group and continues today to ensure their clients needs are well serviced. By Stew Slater Special to The Citizen Following through on a major capital expenditure process which was approved in principle a year ago, the Avon Maitland District School Board accepted the low bid from ICORR Construction, for the consolidation of maintenance facilities to a central location alongside the board's administrative offices in Seaforth. The $635,000 project "will house the maintenance team in one central location to facilitate more efficient response to schools' needs and free up, for student use, the Stratford Northwestern Secondary School lab space currently being.-used by half of the maintenance team," states a report delivered to trustees at a regular meeting, Tuesday, June 22. The building will be attached to FROM BRUSSELS the southeastern portion of the former Seaforth District High School building, which is home not only to the board's administrative offices, but is also celebrating its second anniversary as the relocated home of Seaforth Public School. Extra office space has been included in plans for the maintenance facility, "in the event that we need existing Seaforth Public School space" as phase-in occurs for the government- mandated cap on Primary class sizes. Maintenance staff currently utilizes one Seaforth Public School classroom for office space. The funding mechanism for the project — with financing provided through access to Facility Renewal Fund grants over a 20-year period — was approved a year ago, on June 24, 2003. AMDSB accepts bid
