THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JULY 8, 2004. PAGE 15.
We applaud the efforts of two
young women who worked during the
elections last week. Tina McClure
and Sarah McDonald both involved
themselves and learned a lot about the
intricacies of voting lists and
answering phones at the local office.
Interested in writing? A few Walton
residents are travelling to Blyth to
join the Writer's Club, started by
Crawford Dewar. The club members
will learn the dos and don'ts of
writing a good story. Anyone
interested can call Patti Banks for
more information on the meetings.
The roar of motocross bikes echoed
across the fields this past week, as
Matt Lee hosted an . Absolute
Technique Motocross School at the
Lee farm. There were 15 students on
hand to learn, and parents there to
camp and watch. Not only riding
techniques are taught, but diet and
conditioning are stressed as well.
An unfortunate mishap occurred on
day one when a young man was
injured during a training ride. Grey
firefighters responded. He_ was
transported by air ambulance to _
London hospital with a badly broken
leg.
Accidents can happen anytime as
we send our best wishes to Tyson
McGavin, who .has suffered a broken.
arm from a fall. He underwent
surgery in London and we hope he
has a speedy recovery. Tyson is the
son of Brian and Shelley McGavin.
Undergoing . surgery as well last
week was Mandy Mitchell. She had
repairs done to her lower leg and will
be laid up for a while. Our best
wishes for a speedy recovery.
Speaking of the Mitchells, Emerson
and Phyllis have moved to Brussels to
their new home and even had bed and
breakfast guests already.
Moving into the home farm are
Neil and Marie and family. We
welcome them to Walton Road.
• The birthday girls were out and
about on Tuesday as they celebrated
Mary Humphries's day. Travelling to
Anna Mae's in Millbank to enjoy a
lovely lunch were Anne Ryan, Mary,
Marie Coutts, Audrey Hackwell,
Marilyn McDonald and Viola Kirkby.
They returned to Marilyn's for a
social afternoon and visit.
Celebrating his third birthday was
young Caden Lee, son of Brett and
Tracy Lee. With dad away in the west
for work, mom Tracey hosted family
and friends at the Walton Inn for a
birthday lunch. The blue room was
decorated with balloons and
streamers to enthuse the younger
guests. Special guests were Caden's
friends, Emma and Owen Taylor, with
Dan and Sherry, great-grandparents
Ron and Joan Lee, grandparents Chris
and Judy Lee, and friends Mary
Bernard and Jo-Ann McDonald.
Our congratulations go out to a few
more graduates from Walton area.
Graduating from Blyth Public School

Taylor. Also graduating from Seaforth
Public School were David Pethick,

and Marlene. She was the recipient of
the Shirley Lyons Memorial award,

proficiency in reading, at Seaforth
Public School Awards
day.
Did you get a chance to check out
the yard sales in Walton on Saturday?
There were quite a few families with
tables out and thanks to Teresa Baan
for organizing the day.
Celebrating the first anniversary of
Jason and LeeAnn Konarski were the
McDonald and Konarski families at
the home of Rick and Jo-Ann
McDonald. A year ago, the weather
was the perfect temperature with only
a very slight breeze and a brief
shower at the end of the wedding
ceremony.
As I write, the grey overcast wet
morning reminds me of how fortunate
we were to enjoy the perfect weather
for LeeAnn and Jason's garden
wedding. We recalled how busy we
had been, with preparations,
gardening, food, rehearsals and all
that goes with a wedding and what a
wonderful day it had been.
Joining together for the backyard
barbecue were Jason and LeeAnn,
Rick and Brenda Konarski, Rick and
Jenn Cook, Rick and Jo-Ann
McDonald, Kelly McDonald and
Adam, Scott McDonald, Leona
McDonald, Geraldine Clarke, Karen
Calhoun, Kendra Warwick, Chris and
Judy Lee and Carman and Mary
Bernard.
Here visiting from Calgary is
Kendra Warwick, daughter of Karin
McDonald Calhoun. Enjoying a
relaxing visit with mom in Bayfield
and grandma Leona McDonald, she
was over to visit several times during
her 10-day stay. She has now returned
to Calgary.
_July birthday babies include Sherry
Taylor, Michael Ryan, Mert
Hackwell, Hope Williamson, Jeff
Linton, Craig Baan, Burt Lobb, Bob
Humphries, Allison Stevenson,
Jonathon Blake, Carol Axtmann,
Dianne Blake, Brad Knight, Allan
Carter and Sean and Emily Mitchell.
The Walton Ontario Early Years
program at Duff's United Church
celebrated Caden Lee's birthday.
They enjoyed practising counting
on birthday cakes and presenting
them to. friends, especially Ca-
den.
Megan Campbell enjoyed painting
a sun and cutting playdough. Mathew
played with trucks in the pasta. Emma
and Owen enjoyed some fun with
Mom and Dad.
The program continues all summer
on Wednesdays from 10 - 11:30 a.m.
Val Watson looks forward to meeting
more children from the area.
The Walton Brewers hosted the
Belmore Juniors on Tuesday evening
at Walton ball park. The Brewers
defeated them 5-1, to earn their ninth
win in a row.
Walton pitcher, Larry Lowes threw
the complete game for the win. The
Brewers were solid at the plate by
producing a string of hits to garner the
runs needed for the
win.
