Currently, said Stewart none of the seven nominees had officially withdrawn though he had heard the possibility that two were going to pull out of the race. Running thus far are Helen Grubb, John Cronyn, Dave Pattison, Doug Scrimgeour, Edgar Daer, Gerald Kerr and George Reinink. Warm welcome It was a hero's welcome for Justin Peters, the 17-year-old son of Jeff and Janice of Blyth, who returned home after a week of celebration following his draft selection to the Carolina Hurricanes. Peters completed a very successful season with the St. Mike's Junior A squad finishing fourth overall for goalies in North America. There was no church at Blyth United Church this past Sunday as it was visitation Sunday which enabled everyone to attend another church of their choice. Next Sunday July 11 Lorna Fraser will be in charge of the service. Cigarettes shoplifted from Blyth General Store Happy birthday to Kim (Craig) Hornyak who celebrates her birthday on Monday, July 19. We are glad to hear Lenora Davidson is recovering at home. The community held a On June 28 at 5 p.m. at carton cigarettes was shoplifted from the Blyth General Store located on Queen Street in Blyth. The clerk who was working at the store told police that a man had asked about the price of a carton of cigarettes. The man left the store returned a few minutes later and told the clerk he wanted the cigarettes. The carton was placed on the counter and the male grabbed the carton and fled out of the store, travelling east on Drummond Street on foot. A search of the area was unsuccessful. Huron OPP are looking for a man approximately 25 years of age, of average height and skinny build. He had short dark hair with long mutton- shaped sideburns. If you can help in solving this crime call the local OPP or contact Crime Stoppers with your infor- mation. Weekly beginning July 10 Saturdays 1:00 - 4:30 pm Mites hit 2 homers The Blyth Mites played five innings of ball on July 5. After the fourth inning they were winning 18-16 against Brussels. Pitching for Blyth was shared by Drew Wood, Nathan Plunkett, Jordan Boniface Button and Sadie Chalmers. Catching the ball behind the plate was Becca Chalmers, Kennan MacDonald and Ashley Walden. Lucas Nicholson, Bryce Wheeler and Christina Eckert kept the ball from going by them in the outfield. Kayla Dale played strong on third base as did Kelsey Kerr at shortstop. Two excellent plays were made by Lauren Cronin and Morgan Bos as a team. With a game well played and two home runs from Wood and one from Plunkett the Mites, however lost 23-31 in the fifth inning. July 16, with the deadline to withdraw being Monday, July 19. The bi-election will be Aug. 30 with voting at the Blyth arena.
