As you think about how you spent the past week it shouldn't take too long to see that a whole lot of folks in this world would love to be in your place. . In our Canada we have the freedom to express an opinion, as in voting freely with no threat to life and limb. We assume the right to own land and possessions and with that comes the responsibility to maintain community standards, a small price we take for granted. We are offered education in a school system that does not admit one because of age, colour or creed and then deny ,another. Our health system is the envy of many and we still complain. Talk to your parents and grandparents about the life- altering things that happened when family farms were mortgaged to pay for an operation or other health emergency of a family member. So in this week after Canada Day, take an hour to think about all our privileges and be thankful. It was celebration, time at the Gropp home on Sunday as the Ott aunts held a family Jack and Jill shower for Jason Gropp,. now of Kitchener, and his fiancée Lisa McLellan. Guests attended from Barrie, Orillia, Wi arton, Corunna, Brampton, Toronto, Listowel, Fordwich, Palmerston, Lucknow and Carthage. Lisa is a granddaughter of Betty and the late Tom Finch. The parties and gatherings to celebrate the start of summer were blessed with good weather-read, no rain on the parade. Atwood and Wingham offered up a delight for the observers, as their folks put on the glad rags to celebrate the happening in their communities. People love a parade, the ones in it and those watching have a good time. Brussels folks supported both of these communities with their presence and their contributions to very good parades. The Outdoor Donnellys are done for another time. The streets of Blyth will be pretty calm with no long dresses or bonnets, no horses or tractors taking the public stage. Last week one night I was doing St. John Ambulance duty behind the threshers' barn where the main stage for the production was held. It was one of those nights that makes a print on your mind. The hay in the. field below the stage was freshly, cut and smelling as only new cut hay can. The moon was absolutely full, nearly overflowing it seemed, and the actors did their stuff. Talk about the perfect background. The people from community who offer their time for many hours for practice and production are to be thanked. It makes the show seem very close to home when you have Marg Garniss and Alyssa Ruttan telling you things, then Dale Wanless comes riding through with his team and various coaches and buggies. Stories read as a child come back in much greater detail. Good work once again Blyth Festival and thanks for the memories. Enjoy the spirit,of summer. Bye now, Betty G.W. The Brussels U-15 soccer club continued its unbeaten streak in league play this past Monday in North Perth Soccer action.
