Brussels Livestock report
Steers, heifers sell at prices $1 lower
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending June
25 were 1,934 head of cattle, 677
lambs and goats. On Tuesday the fed
steers and heifers sold at prices $1
lower. Fancy and double-muscle
steers and heifers sold $85 to $90
with sales up to $93. Choice steers
and heifers sold $77 to $81 and sec-
ond-cut steers and heifers sold $72
to $75. The cows sold on a steady
market. On Tuesday the veal sold at
prices $2 higher. The lambs sold on
a strong active trade. OR Friday
stockers sold on an active trade.
There were 656 steers on offer.

limousin steer weighing 1,240 lbs.

The 4-H Saddle Broncs had a third
successful meeting on the farm of
Sherry Stewart in Walton on
Saturday, May 29.
First, members learned about all
the blemishes that a horse may have
and how to treat them. Secondly,
they found out how and why a horse
fourteen charolais heifers averaging
1,352 lbs. which sold for an average
price of $76.36 with sales to $79.
Five heifers consigned by Calvin
and Larry Bryans, Chatsworth, aver-
aged, 1,242 lbs. selling for an aver-
age price of $76.17 with their top
black heifer weighing 1,270 lbs.
selling to Dominion Meat Packers
for $84.50. Bruce Dale, Centralia,
consigned one black heifer weighing
'1,285 lbs. which sold to Ryding
Regency for $82.40. His overall
offering of four heifers averaged
1,170 lbs. selling for an average
price of $73.51.
There were 132 cows on offer. DI
and D2 cows sold $20 to $25 with
sales to $30; D3, $15 to $20; D4,
$10 to $15; shell cows, $5 to $10.
Ron T. Rhame, Denfield, consigned
one red cow weighing 1,490 lbs.
which sold for $30. One limousin
cow consigned by Kevin Lutkey,
Chesley, weighed 1,505 lbs. which
sold for $30. Anna Morley, Annan,
consigned one limousin cow weigh-
ing 1,440 lbs. which sold for $27.50.
There were 12 bulls on offer sell-
ing from $17 to $45.50 with sales to
$60. John Dietrich, Mitchell, con-
signed one blonde bull weighing
2,160 lbs. which sold for $60. One
limousin bull consigned by Jim
Rice, Conn, weighed 2,185 lbs. sell-
ing for $45.50.
There were 177 head of veal on
offer. Beef sold $93 to $110 to $117;
is registered, and finally, they
learned how specific horses are
identified with a tattoo.
Later during the meeting, they
were given saddle canteens and a
poster with all the different breeds of
horses. These were provided by one
of the many companies that support
the club.
Good holstein, $75 to $85 with sales
to $95; medium holstein, $60 to $70;
plain and heavy holstein, $45 to $50.
Carl DeGroot, Orton, consigned four
blue veal heifers averaging 669 lbs.
which sold to Norval Meat Packers
for an average price of $108.48 with
sales up to $117. One holstein veal
steer consigned by G.T. Livestock,
weighed 645 lbs. which sold to
Newmarket Meat Packers for $95.
Their overall offering of fourteen
holstein veal steers averaged 735
lbs. for an average price of $63.63.
Gerald VanSickle, Thamesville, con-
signed one holstein veal steer weigh-
ing 685 lbs. which sold to
Newmarket Meat Packers for $93.
His overall offering of ten holstein
veal steers averaged 710 lbs. selling
for an average price of $78.50.
