We start' with congratulations to three different families for three different reasons. Congratulations to Jeff and Tracey McKee on the birth of a third child, a son. Congratulations to Mary Humphries who celebrated a special birthday last week. Family members, including her brother Jack Bennett and niece Jane Laycock from Newmarket, dropped in for a short birthday visit. Daughters Wenda and Kim also dropped in to celebrate Mary's special day. Congratulations to Jeff Lewington and Sandra Collins who were married at Gorrie Bible Fellowship on Saturday, June 26. They held a dinner following the ceremony at Kurtzville and a small reception was held at the home of parents Ernie and Annette Lewington in a tent on the front lawn. The newlyweds will be living on Moncrieff Road and we welcome Sandra to the Walton/Brussels community. Neil and Marie McGavin travelled to the University of Guelph recently where a convocation was held for those who had graduated prior to 1965 from what was then known as the Ontario Agricultural College. Over 300 graduates were able to attend the ceremony where they were presented with an Honorary Companion of University of Guelph diploma. The oldest recipient was a 95-year-old woman. The Chancellor of the University of Guelph. Lincoln Alexander made the presentations. Congratulations to Neil. Dropping in for a visit with Neil and Marie were Bill and Donna Hamilton from Winchester who were in the Brussels area attending a wedding. Funeral services were held for Bill Turnbull on Tuesday and many friends and neighbours from the Walton community were in attendance. Our condolences are extended to the Fritz families. There's construction happening on the farm of Tim and Lisa Fritz as the beginnings of a barn have begun. The Fritzes lost their barn to fire in September last year. Congratulations to our Grade 8 graduates from Walton area. Some graduates are Kyle Griffith, Laura Bowers, Bridget Blake, Nick Lubbers, Daniel Dwyer, Stefanie Rijkhoff, Andrew van Vliet and Nicole Williamson. Look out high school. High school graduates who come to mind are Sarah McDonald, Hope Williamson, Scott Dalton and Adam Oliver. While travelling around the community don't forget to stop in at the many yard sales going on this Saturday. If you didn't get your name to Marilyn or Marie for the community calendar by June 30, pleading might get your names included if done by Saturday. Celebrating birthdays this past week were Kendra Shortreed, Julia Ann Mitchell, Nora Humphries, Ken McCallum, Jennifer Rea, Sandy Terpstra, Katelynn Becker, and Caden Lee. Happy birthday to all.
