(Photo submitted) The Clinton Wheel 'n' Dealers Square Dance Club celebrated its 40th anniversary June 9 at the annual Pie night dance in the Seaforth Community Centre. Garnet and Marg Wright were in charge of registration at 6:30 p.m. A most interesting display of photos and badges of previous functions brought back many memories. Dan and Rhetha Roy brought greetings from SWOSDA and Bill and Bonnie Taylor represented the Square and Round Dance Federation. Presidents Allan and Cecilia On Saturday, June 26 Belgrave will be hosting a Celebrate Canada Show.'n Shine. It will be a great day for the whole family. The events are sponsored by community groups with all the Fulker welcomed everyone. Former club presidents were presented with a booklet of memories by Cecilia. At 8 p.m., caller Les Greenwood turned on the music and the floor filled with 25 square. Former callers Egbert Jacobs and Glenn Patterson attended and each called a tip. Also back were beginner caller Ron and Beatrice Fleming from Ridgetown. Rounds were cued by Lois Wise and Les Greenwood. Anniversary cake was decorated with the club logo by Debbie Hakkers. Members supplied the numerous and delicious pies. Mr. Fulker proceeds going to the Belgrave Park Enhancement Fund. Plan on spending a fun day with your family in Belgrave for a car show, live local entertainment, flea market/garage Kevin Falconer appeared before Blyth council at the June 7 meeting to express concern over the cost to rent the campgrounds for the firefighters' convention being held in Blyth, July 30 .to Aug. 2. Fire departmentS- from across the province will be represented at the convention. All the money raised by the even will be returned to the community. Clerk-administrator John Stewart advised the reason the cost was high was because the entire campground and arena had been booked so the department would have first chance. However,- the department would only need to pay for the sites and parts of the facilities used. Stewart will meet with the firefighters to work out an agreement. * ** The second installments of the property taxes are due June 25. *** Council authorized the purchase of a 1-40HP high efficiency electric motor instead of the new alum pump for the cost of $1,500 as allocated under capital purchases in the budget. *** The quote of Hodgin's TIM-BR Mart for the purchase of lumber and steel for the Mennonite horse shed being constructed in Wingham, at a cost of $6,837.11 was accepted. Stewart advised that there would be approximately $8,000 additional expenses for items such as cement, site grading, backhoe work, inside thanked all the committees and everyone from near and far for making a very memorable 40th. Clubs represented were Howick, Kincardine. Strathroy, Milverton, Hanover, London, Kitchener and surrounding communities. The 2008 national convention will be at the Convention Centre in London July 17-19 hosted by the Southwestern Ontario Square and Round Dance Association. FROM BELGRAVE WMS hears story on pettiness The Belgrave WMS held its meeting on Monday, June 7 at the home of Margaret Siertsema and opened with The Purpose. Beryl MacGowan read scripture. Alice Nicholson read a story on the greatness of God's love. Mrs. MacGowan had a story on pettiness and how it can ruin good relationships. Mrs. Nicholson read the memorial to Dora Neilson from the Glad Tidings, then she had a tribute to Albert Schweitzer, a genius who had doctorates in medicine, theology, philosophy and music. He was born in 1875 and changed people's lives when he went to the French Congo to fight ignorance and superstition. The roll call was answered by a verse on love. Mrs.- Siertsema gave the secretary's report and the treasurer's report was given by Ivy Cloakey. There will be no meeting in July and the fall rally is in Lucknow on Sept. 22. Mrs. Siertsema read a poem entitled So Short the Day. The hymn, More Love to Thee, was read. Rev. Cathrine Campbell closed the meeting with prayer and the hostess served lunch. 5 tables at euchre There were five tables of euchre in Nicholson; lone hands, Aileen play on Wednesday, June 9 in the Leddy; high man, Bill Somerville; Belgrave Women's Institute second high man, Joe Spitzig; lone Hall. hands, Richard Moore.
