Sports Thunder storms to victory The Londesborough Bantams had a close home game on June 10 when they met Sebringville. Although both teams played well, it was an 8- 8 tie. A good effort was put forth during the first and seventh innings as Londesborough scored one run in each inning. Then in the second they brough four more home and in the fourth inning, two more runs were scored. On the mound, Darcey Cook had 11 strikeouts from the first inning to the seventh. In the fourth Lee Watkins pitched half the inning. Josh Nurse heard nothing but cheers as he hit a homerun in the second inning. Cook and Derek Dolmage each hit Ethel Girls with 16-11 On June 1 at the Ethel Ball Park, the Ethel PeeWee girls softball team walked away with a 16-11 victory game againSt Kincardine 11. During the first inning, Ethel scored two runs and in both the second and fourth innings, the girls managed to get seven runs in, but none during the third inning. Cheryl Cox proved her pitching abilities as she struck out three Kincardine players in the first and fourth innings. Belgrave wins The Ethel and Belgrave Pre-Mites softball teams had a great match in Ethel on June 7. when Belgrave cheerfully walked away with a 28- Ix An excellent first game was plyed by Ethel with great teamwork made by everyone. Pearson Smith and Ben Hruska each hit amazing home runs. a triple. The Bantam's played another home game, walking away with a 16-6 victory, this time against Hibbert on June I I. The hard-working Bantams. scored three runs in each of the first, second and fourth inning and seven runs in the third inning. It was an exciting game for Drew Miller and Thomas LeComte as they each hit a homerun. Watkins struckout four players out when he pitched from the first inning to half of the fourth. - Dolmage cleaned things up as he finished pitching in the fourth inning and struck one batter out. Cook pitched a great fifth inning as he struck out two Hibbert players. walk away victory Danica Zwep pitched a great game although she didn't strike anyone out in the beginning of the second inning, but did her team proud when she hit a home run in the second inning. Lindsay Stewart struck out one player as she pitched for the third inning and the end of the second. Cheers were heard around Ethel as Lynn Boyer hit an amazing grand slam in the fourth inning. Blyth Thunders U- 11 soccer team had its sixth game of the season on June 8 at the Seaforth Public School field. Blyth's game captain was left defender Lucas Frawley. Tanner Merner was goalkeeper. He made several good saves throughout the game. His most remarkable save of the night was made when he jumped up to deflect the ball up over the crossbar. Seaforth Gold was first to score taking a quick lead in the game. Brendon Boven made a pass to Brent Drost for a goal to tie up the game, A short time later. Boven On Wednesday, June 8 the Brussels Midget Girls were on the road to play Exeter. • Lacey McCall, in the first, would get on with a walk and score on singles by Catrina Josling, Sara McDonald and Katie Aitchison. Rachel Speers would wait out a walk and advance on singles by Ashley Keffer and Candice Ross. The Brussels offensive would see seven runs scored in the first. McDonald was on the mound for Brussels and had only one run score, on one hit, two walks and two Although. the Brussels U-6 houseleague team II lost 8-2 against Brussels I on June 9, team II has been showing improvement each game through a great team effort. Austin Johnston and Nic Zwep played an excellent game with both goals scored by Zwep. Goaltenders Rachel Hastings and Connor denDekker played particularly well in net with many excellent saves. *** On June 2. U-6 Brussels I played a great match against Brussels III. Leading scorers for Brussels I were Mathew Clarke. Eric VanNes, Gregory Ward and Faith Sebastian. It was another win for the Brussels minor soccer . U-7 team as they played Elma III June 8 despite the heat. The U-7s came away with a 21-0 win. Drost passed the ball to Boven for Blyth's third goal, just before the half-time whistle blew. The first half of the game was very evenly matched, with plays at both ends of the field. Blyth was fortunate to have an excellent second half of the game, scoring four more goals. Drost was playing a terrific game and was lucky enough to score five goals, four during the last half. Other players who played hard and showed excellent teamwork. helping their team to a third victory were Sophie-Cardiff, Andrew Fear, Ceaira Heimstra, Seth Nichol and Mitchell Ward. *** Excellent goaltending was played by U-6 Brussels IV Derrick Waechter, Dylan McNeil and Tiffany Deiter as they shut-out Brussels III 7-0. Great plays were made by Carlie Ducharme who scored three goals while Waechter and Delayna Smith each scored two. A fantastic effort in offense and goal was scored on a penalty shot. The second and fourth goals were assisted by Boven, who also had an outstanding game. The third goal was assisted by half-back Jacob Nonkes. The final score was 7-2 victory for the Thunder. "It was a very hot and humid night and all Blyth players put forth a terrific effort as could be seen by their bright red faces. Freezie treats and ice water were enjoyed by all players during half time and after the game," said coach Mary Ann Drost. McDonald. Exeter would have their next three batters sit on two strikeouts and a caught long fly ball to Josling. In the final at-bat for Brussels they would leave the bases loaded. Josling then took over pitching duties for the final bat for Exeter. Bases were loaded on four hit pitches. Ross then came in to finish the inning. The final score was Brussels 19, Exeter 12. While Jake Mitchell enjoyed half time, Hudson Smith's motto during the game was last, but not least. Although Brussels III didn't score. many great shots were made in an attempt to even out the game. Konrad McArter of Brussels III took a ball in the face, but that did not stop him from continuing on to play in net. A great team effort was made by all, especially Darren Evans, Jamie Perrault and Kaitlin Wick, who were always chasing the ball up and down the field.
