A team full of thanks
The U-9 Brussels soccer team had much to celebrate as
they proudly wore their new soccer shirts which were
sponsored by the Brussels CIBC branch. Back row, from

Oh what a beautiful morning and
on for the whole weekend. Warm
and sunny with a nice bit of a
breeze. Yes, very beautiful.
Activities around the village
were well attended with folks out
strolling as they checked out the
ball games both at Victoria Park
and at the arena. Lots of fun for the
players and the fans.
The playground equipment, a
very popular village spot. gets extra
use when there are games
scheduled. Nothing like kids at
play to make you smile.
The music lessons are working.
Sheila Richards played the organ
on Sunday at church (with Grace
Jutzi at the piano) and did a fine
job!
We had one very special visitor in
our area on Saturday. Makanya
Bita from Tanzania was here with a
United Church program called Face
to Face. This is reverse of the usual
"mission work". With this visit to
Huron and Perth, Makanya opened
our eyes to how our world affects
his. He works for The Youth
Employment and Food Production
Foundation as a guide and
consultant to improve the lives of
the folks in his area of East Africa.
Folks from Brussels and Ethel
United Churches showed him the
Grey Central School as well as the
Environmental Learning Grounds,
a very important part of the school
life.
He was able to question and learn
about the governance of our school
system and the history of the
natural areas preserved for
education on the school grounds.
The contrast in our world is vast.
The children he deals with have
only a building and a blackboard.
Pause to think of that for a just a
At the Branch
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The Friday night supper of chicken
wings and french fries was enjoyed by
over 30 at the Brussels Legion
Branch. This week is roast beef.
Everyone is invited to the seniors
luncheon on Tuesday, June 22 at
noon. On the menu is ham and
scalloped potatoes for $6.
The cemetery decoration service is
June 27 at 2 p.m. There seems to be
only a small crowd who comes out to
pay respects to those who have passed
and the cemetery is always so nice
with flowers. Please consider joining
the Legion and the Brussels United,
Anglican, Presbyterian, Catholic and
Walton United Churches remember
family, friends or neighbours who
have passed on.
The general meeting will be held
Tuesday, June 22 at 8 p.m. It will be
the first meeting of the new executive
moment.
Stories of here and there were
shared on the tour as well- as a
potluck lunch at the Ethel church.
Joan Golden was tour guide as
Makanya went on to view farms
that contribute to the Food Grains
Bank, saw sheep in milk
production, and general farming at
two of the Cardiff farms. All the
while he told stories of how life is
for the people he deals with and
picked up details of life that will
help him in his work at home.
Dollars from the Mission and
Service Fund of the United Church
make their way to Tanzania and
now having met Mr. Bita we know
we can make a difference.
Education and justice for all
seemed like pretty simple things to
do to make this a better world.
The gardeners in our midst are
having a very good time. Rain and
sun and a little leisure time and the
rewards of their labours are
evident. Take a stroll or a slow
drive past and enjoy the gardens in
the village — pretty nice.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
and all members should come out and
support them.
On Sunday, Comrades Norm
Dobson and Rick and Jo-Ann
McDonald travelled to London for the
opening ceremonies and parade for
the 40th Dominion Convention of the
Royal Canadian Legion. There were
over 1,000 Comrades on Parade to
march from Victoria Park to the
London Convention Centre.
Comrades Norm and Jo-Ann carried
the Canadian flag and Branch colours
and Comrade Rick marched with the
Ontario contingent of Comrades.
Representatives from all provinces
marched and the crowd applauded
their appreciation as the parade
passed by.
Over 30 enjoy
Legion dinner
