THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JUNE 10, 2004. Huronview drain raises questions By Bonnie Gropp Citizen editor .Whose problem is it? That was the question asked by some county councillors at the June 3 meeting regarding the drainage problems at Huronview. Barb Springall. administrator for the county homes for the aged. presented a recommendation to council that B.M. Ross and Associates Ltd. be engaged to complete a site study of the drainage problems for the quoted amount of $8,900 plus GST. The money will come from the homes reserve fund. Huron East councillor Joe Seili. however, wondered if B.M. Ross had been the original designers of the project. Springall explained that there had actually been two companies involved and while B.M. Ross did not do the design they "do have a background" in the project. Seili said that if the firm was the original site engineer to pay them for the study is like "paying them to come hack and sec it's done right." Warden Bill Dowson wondered, as the work had to he done, if Seili was recommending that another firm be given the contract. Seili said he just wondered why if they were the on the job originally why they should bill the county now for "their mistakes." County engineer Don Pletch, who was not with the county at the time of the work, said it was his understanding that the council of the day had decided they didn't want to pay for daily inspection. "B.M. Ross therefore did not provide full-time supervision." "So maybe the county's to blame," said Dowson, to which Seili, replied, "I'm starting to see the light too." The recommendation passed. HE mayor fed up with Hall issues By Dale Newman Special to The Citizen At the June I meeting Huron East mayor Joe Seili asked council for their comments on the Moncrieff Hall issue. There has been a number of conflicts regarding board members and others in past months. Now the Moncrieff hall committee has recommended to council that all structures, trees and flowers be removed by adjacent landowners encroaching on municipal property. At the' Huron East council meeting June 1, a motion was made that the Seaforth arena repairs be deferred to the next meeting as it was not a budgeted item, and a public meeting is required to make changes to the budget. *** The question was asked by council. "Are we going to have to ask the farmers to remove crops planted on road allowance?" Council's consensus was that the hall board should run the hall and leave land use issues to council. The discussions made it clear that this issue had consumed a lot of their time which prompted Seili to say, "If this pissing match at Moncrieff can't be stopped I'll ask to sell the ball park, the four-foot walkway. decommission the well and plant trees where the hall was.- A tender was awarded to Lavis Contracting for paving in Seaforth and Egmondville at a cost of $158,845.16. *** Accounts in the amount of $139,558.84 were approved for payment.
