Baby music
These adorable babies may someday grow to be great
musicians after they completed Kindermusik for Babies,
taught by Annie Sparling of Blyth. The babies who range
from newborn to one-and-a-half years old, learn music and
movement with the help of their mothers. From left: Julie

Festival of the arts
From the classic piano music to modern dance music,
students at Blyth Public School held their annual Festival of
Arts featuring a showcase of the school's concert band,
directed by Kendra Pearson, and a newly developed guitar
band. It wasn't just the bands performing though, as many
students had the courage to get up in front of their peers
and perform different dance routines and piano numbers.

Warden
tells tales
about MPPs'
behaviour
By Bonnie Gropp
Citizen editor
Asked by county council at the
June 3 meeting to share his views
regarding a trip to Queen'S Park,
warden Bill Dowson had a bit to say
about manners.
Dowson had been invited to attend
the announcement of the provincial
budget in Toronto by Huron-Bruce
MPP Carol Mitchell.
The behaviour of the provincial
politicians, he said, "was totally
unreasonable. If it happened in this
chamber or any schoolroom..."
Dowson said the problem came
from both sides of the room, equally.
but "the gentleman who presented it
did an excellent job."
The gallery was so unimpressed,
said Dowson, that the western region
wardens group is sending a letter of
concern regarding the process and
how it was handled.
South Huron councillor Dave
Urlin said he has watched the
proceedings on television and agrees
with Dowson's comments. "I'm sure
most kids' behaviour is a lot better
(than the politicians'). It seems they
get to Toronto and act like idiots,
yelling and screaming. People ask a
question they never get an answer."
There had been lengthy discussion
about the rest stops and the need for
toilets. A total of $50,000 had been
cut from the roadside maintenance
in the budget process. Goderich
councillor Ellen Connelly, however,
had said that she understood there
was an agreement between the
county and the municipalities that
the county would provide the
portable toilets and the lower-tier
municipalities would maintain the
grounds. Should Huron stop
providing the facilities, the
municipalites could discontinue
maintenance.
When it was suggested that the
portable toilets not be installed this

year, there was concern expressed by
some committee members 'about the
provisions for tourists.
The recommendation for county
council Thursday was that the toilets
be installed this year with further
discussion taking place in fall.
In speaking to the motion, South
Huron councillor Rob Morley said,
"Might I suggest that the next time
we have this discussion there's lot of
coffee in the room and we lock the
door for three hours."
Larry Adams, chief administrative
officer, told councillors they would
be pleased to know that he "saw the
paperwork (for tenders) roll through
the middle of last week."
