"There was not enough deficiency in high speed internet access in Huron and Perth to be eligible for funding." Tousaw said that the counties had 58 per cent coverage, and other northern communities are much lower. The program was designed to fund the deployment Canada -wide of broadband (high speed internet) services for First Nations, northern, rural and remote communities that are currently without access. "We are still waiting to hear from the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade regarding our Connect Ontario application which was submitted prior to the deadline date of Oct. 31." That includes strategic investments in primary producers and in the economies of rural Canada as a whole." :•,. 1 Paul Steckle - April 2004 I , a As an MP representing a large rural riding and, as Chair of the Agriculture Committee, Treasurer of Rural Caucus and as Treasurer of the Outdoors Caucus, I am ever mindful of the unique lifestyle of rural Canadians. That is why I lobbied for more resources for rural infrastructure; for a re-opening of the Canada/US border to beef; for the packers to account for their profit levels: for rapid action to contain the spread of Avian Flu; for the maintenance of rural post offices; for increased support for struggling farmers and for actions aimed at increasing the numbers of doctors in rural hospitals. We need to continue to ensure that rural Canada remains strong in the years ahead. ---- For Information, Call or Visit my Campaign Office: 46 Victoria Street North, Goderich, Ontario N7A 2R6 Phone: (519) 524-4848 Toll Free: 1-800-489-8959 Fax: (519) 524-5528 E-mail: stecklecampaign@bellnet.ca Authorized By The Official Agent FOT Paul Steckle
