Blyth offers more places to rest during those energetic
walks as the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby
Association donated a marble bench which is placed on
Queen Street in front of Memorial Hall. The bench was

Internet application rejected

Citizen editor
Scott Tousaw, director of planning
and development for Huron County,
told councillors at the June 3
meeting that the business plan
Huron Perth Connects Broadband
project had been denied funding by
the Ministry of Industry Canada.
"There was not enough deficiency
in high speed internet access in
Huron and Perth to be eligible for
funding."
Tousaw said that the counties had
58 per cent coverage, and other
northern communities are much
lower.
The program was designed to fund
the deployment Canada -wide of
broadband (high speed internet)
services for First Nations, northern,
rural and remote communities that
are currently without access.
"We are still waiting to hear from
the Ministry of Economic
Development and Trade regarding
our Connect Ontario application
which was submitted prior to the
deadline date of Oct. 31."

There was an open house at the
Blyth arena, prior to the Monday
night meeting of North Huron
council to explain the reconstruction
for Dinsley Street.
Director of public works Ralph
Campbell said the work will be from
Mill Street to Morris Street and
should start in August.
There will be new sidewalks on
the south side of Dinsley with some
repairs to the north sidewalk.
There will be 3/4-inch water
services in everybody's property line
on both sides and new subdrainage
to the road.
The total cost is in the
neighbourhood of $40,000.
Pre-engineering has been done for

PAUL STECKLE
Representing the Interests of Rural Canada
,.. 44, "Rural Canada is the engine that drives the nation...
governments must recognize that and act accordingly.
That includes strategic investments in primary producers
and in the economies of rural Canada as a whole."
:•,. 1 Paul Steckle - April 2004 I , a
As an MP representing a large rural riding and, as Chair of the Agriculture
Committee, Treasurer of Rural Caucus and as Treasurer of the Outdoors
Caucus, I am ever mindful of the unique lifestyle of rural Canadians. That is
why I lobbied for more resources for rural infrastructure; for a re-opening of
the Canada/US border to beef; for the packers to account for their profit levels:
for rapid action to contain the spread of Avian Flu; for the maintenance of rural
post offices; for increased support for struggling farmers and for actions aimed
at increasing the numbers of doctors in rural hospitals. We need to continue to
ensure that rural Canada remains strong in the years ahead.
