the weekend at Camp Kintail. The
highlights were the outdoor church
service on Sunday morning with the
Sunday school members singing,
the young people putting on a skit
depicting the story of the Good
Samaritan, the nature walk, and
communion. A barbecue with salads
and many desserts ended the
activities.

Some area people were in
Stratford on Friday night for the
walk for cancer. It was great to see
so many survivors walking and sad
to read the names of those taken by
cancer. Many families have been
touched by cancer as shown by the
large crowd.
. Many Brussels and area residents
spent long hours last week in
Huronlea putting labels on the cards
that will be mailed to people who
can vote in the upcoming election.
The volunteer auxiliary from
Huronlea thank their many friends
for helping out.
Congratulations to the many area
winners on Saturday night at the
Lions elimination draw. The dinner,
clowns and music was enjoyed by
those who were not as lucky.
The Brussels U-15 soccer team
traveled to Listowel in North Perth
Soccer League action this past
Monday. Brussels was attempting to
keep their undefeated record intact
against an equally undefeated
Listowel 1 team. Right from the
opening kick off, Brussels took
control of the game and proved
themselves the better of the two
teams.
Brussels went up 1-0 on a goal
from striker Scott Somerville at the
five minute mark. Listowel was able
to tie the game when they capitalized
on some Brussels
miscommunication in the defense
and put one behind keeper Chris
Corbett. Having Corbett scored on
for the first time this year seemed to
energize the local squad to come to
his defense by attacking the
Listowel team continuously from
that point on. By half time, the
Brussels squad led 5 - 1.
'The locals then continued their
offensive dominance into the second
half scoring three more markers. At
the end of the game, the goal scorers
for Brussels were Somerville with
six, including an excellent single
effort on his last marker, fellow
striker Greg Tiffin with one and
midfielder Adam Corbett with an
unassisted goal from a comer kick.
Listowel was able to get another
ball into the mesh during the second
half making the final score 8 - 2.
"The game was highlighted with
some excellent play making and ball
control", said Brussels coach Mark
Beaven. "The guys and gals are
improving with each and every
game."
One example of the excellent play
making that Beaven was referring to
was the excellent scoring

opportunity that arose when forward
Shane Cochrane made a nice cross to
Robert Cochrane heading the ball
just inches over the crossbar.
In terms of Brussels defensive
play, besides a couple of minor
miscommunications, players were
up to the task once again. Dan
Dwyer played a solid performance
in the sweeper position making sure
that keeper Corbett only had to make
a couple of difficult saves.
"We still have a little work to do
on the transition game, but our
defenders are doing an excellent job
of keeping the ball out of the danger
zone", said Beaven. "Dan Dwyer did
a superb job in the backfield as did
Lacey and Kristen McArter."
This win improves the Brussels
record to four wins, one tie and zero
losses. They travel to Palmerston
next Monday night at 7 p.m. hoping
to keep their record intact.
