U-15s play to win The Brussels U-15 soccer team travelled to Listowel in North Perth Soccer League action this past Monday. Once again, the teams had to battle wet field conditions but the rain paused long enough to allow the game to take place. Brussels had their full squad out and were in top form. They dominated the play right from the opening kick off and it was not long before Brussels had their first marker up on the scoreboard with. striker Greg Tiffin, putting the ball by the Listowel keeper. The locals continued their sconng and at the half, the score was 5-0 in favour of Brussels. Goals scored were by Derrick Waechter. (one), Tiffany Delmer, (one), Dylan McNeil (one), Delayha Smith (one), and Carlie Ducharme (three). Logan Kellington and Carlie Ducharme took turns in the net. The second game was against team I where they lost 3-2. Scoring for team IV were Ducharme and Deitner. Smith. Ducharme. Kellington and Emma Strome took turns in the net. Team IV players include Emma and Sarah Strome, Derrick Waechter, Hudson and Delayna Smith, Dawson Peachey, Jake Mitchell. Dylan McNeil, Alexandra Martin. Logan Kellington, Leanne Excl. Carlie Ducharme. and Tiffany Deitner. Huuscleague games are every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. behind the BIVIG arena. couple of excellent saves was Chesley McLellan. The second half started where the first half left off with the local squad continuing to control the ball. Brussels went up 6-0 on what was the prettiest goal of the year when mid-fielder Lindsey Watson and Tiffin made an excellent play to striker Scott Somerville who put the ball into the mesh. At the end of the game the score was 9-0 for the Brussels squad. Scoring the goal were Somerville with five, Tiffin with two, Trevor McArter with one and scoring his first marker of the year was Tom Cronin. Coach Mark Beaven is quite happy with the way the team is progressing. "We are starting to use our heads, and execute some excellent plays. We still have a way to go, but we are getting there." Some notable defensive play came from Lacey McArter, Kayla Bishop. and Laurie Grobbink. "I was extremely pleased with their play", commented Beaven. "Laurie continues to be assertive and take charge. and this was definitely Lacey's and Kayla's best game yet." Equally impressive at play making a transition play was Adam Corbett. • The win at Listowel improves the Brussels team's record to three wins, one tie and zero losses. Their net game is Monday, June 7 back in Listowel at the Kinsmen Park at 7 p.m. The Londesborough Bantams scored big over a visiting Seaforth squad on May 13, securing a 7-4 victory. It was an offensive onslaught in the first that set the tone with the hosts shutting down the squad then taking a commanding lead with five runs crossing the plate in the bottom half of the inning. The game remained scoreless until the fourth. -when Seaforth got the Due to wet, soggy fields the Blyth soccer team finally played its fourth game of the season on Thursday, May 27 at 7:15 p.m. at, the Fleming field in Clinton against the Clinton Arsenals. Blyth's game captain was defensive player Jason Young. Clinton scored three goals during the first half. Blyth's goalkeeper Greg Roetcisoender made some fantastic saves throughout the game. The Thunder scored two during the first half, the first by Courtney Bos U-6s play Brussels U-6 II and III met in soccer action May 26. Team II came out on top of this one by a score of 6-3. Scoring were Austin Johnston with two goals. Nic Zwep with three and Tyler Cronin. Solid between the pipes for this squad were Connor denDekker. Jessica Johnston, Shaelynn Cloakey and Cronin. No information was submitted for Brussels U-6 Ill. Brewers • m tourney The Walton Brewers participated in a fastball tournament in Goderich. They played Wroxeter in game one losing 5-2. In game two. they .met Ingersoll and lost 4-2. On Sunday morning they played against the Goderich Orioles and won 6-5 .to advance to the B-final against Belmore Juniors. They defeated Belmore 10-2. The only Brewers' homerun was by Scott McDonald. Tykes win In a game against Stanley on May 27 Blyth Tyke A player Chad Wheeler hit a homerun with the bases loaded. Amy Badley hit a triple bringing in three more runs. Hunter Dale and Badley made throws to first which were caught by Cory Ducharme for two outs. Ducharme got the third out by catching the ball on the bounce and tagging the base. A great team effort left the game at 23-12 for Blyth. hosts sweating with three runs. After no runs in the second, Seaforth moved to within one in the top of the ixth. Londesborough came back with two, then shutdown the visitors in the seventh to seal the victory. Aces on the mound for Londesborough were Darcey Cook, Lee Watkins and Derek Dolmage. It was a tougher contest May 27 when the team hosted Usborne. Londesborough got on the board with an assist from Brendon Boven, who scored the second. During the • second half of the game Bos scored again for Blyth, with an assist from Tanner Merner. Clinton then scored another goal. A Clinton player had a handball in their crease, so a penalty shot was awarded. Brent Drost took the shot for Blyth and scored a goal to tie up the game. The final score was a 4-4 first with one run, after shutting Usborne down in the top half. No more crossed the plate until the visitors tied it in the top of the third, then kept their hosts in check through to the end of the game. A solid sixth-inning showing, with four runs coming in, gave Usborne a solid lead and ultimately the vic- tory. Cook, Watkins and Dolmage did their best on the mound. tie. "This was a rough game, with some unfair calls," said Coach Mary Ann Drost. "However, I'm proud of the team for being good sports and continuing to play a clean game showing honourable team sportsmanship. When playing with skills and determination the team can always be proud of how they played the game."
