Adeline and Harold Campbell celebrated their 65th wedding
anniversary with many friends and family at the Blyth United
Church last Sunday. The couple was married on May 27,
1939 and have lived in Blyth since 1948. After receiving
guests, they enjoyed a dinner in. Holmesville with family.

Couple celebrates
special anniversary
Adeline and Harold Campbell of
Blyth. celebrated their 65th wedding
anniversary with an open house for
family and friends at the Blyth United
Church last Sunday.
Adeline Isabol Cardiff and Harold
Alexander Campbell were married on
May 27, 1939 at the Cardiff home in
Grey Twp. by Rev. Harry Mahoney.
Adeline, daughter of Mabel (Bruce)
and Bill Cardiff, was born in Grey
Twp. and Harold, son of Jane (Hutton)
and George-Campbell, was born in the
Twp. of Tate. Rainy River District.
Attendents for the wedding service
were the bride's aunt Addie Cardiff
and the groom's brother John
Campbell.
The happy couple lived in Brussels,
then in 1948 moved to Blyth.
Harold worked on the family farm
and together with his brother John,
owned and operated J & H Campbell
Transport since 1947. Harold's son
Bill, joined the company after John
retired. For the past few years, Harold
has been inactive in the business.
Adeline and Harold had four
children, Bill, Dwight of Truro, N.S.
who passed away in 2002, Nancy
Wasson and Frances Bearss.
The couple shared many interests
including memberships to the
Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Blyth
United Church and of course, family.
Special guests at the anniversary
celebration were niece, Alice
Morrison of Mississauga; daughter-in-
law, Joan Campbell Truro, N.S.; life-
long friend Doris Cowan and her
friend from Chatham; Michael
Cronyn of Auburn and Rev. Lorenzo
and Norma Ramirez of London.
After receiving guests at the church,
the couple enjoyed a dinner at the
White Carnation in Holinesville with
their children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.

On Wednesday, May 26 the Blyth
Swinging Seniors celebrated being
seniors by "kicking off" Seniors'
Month, slightly ahead of the month of
June.
The theme for this year is Active in
- Body. Mind and Spirit. Guests from
Londesborough and Auburn were
present. too. The guest speaker from
the Genealogical Society was Arlyn
- Montgomery. She kept minds active
as she spoke of creating tamily trees.
She guided the group through filling
in Family Charts. She also spoke of
her Powell ancestors who played
roles in the life of Blyth for three
generations.
Shirley, Nicholsob and Jan Vodden
of the Blyth Tai Chi Club introduced
ways seniors may keep their bodies
active. Everyone was invited to
become active in the tai chi way.
Throughout the celebration Enid
MacDonald. Vera Hesselwood and
Elsie Walsh conducted prize draws. A
planter was the door prize.
Activity continued with the playing
of cards for which prizes were given.
The celebration continued with the
Seniors' Prayer repeated in unison.
Sympathy is extended to Mary
Hamm and family and also to Murray
and Donna Hamm and families on the
sudden death of a husband, father,
grandfather and brother George
Hamm who passed away last
weekend.
Joan Campbell of Truro, Nova
Scotia was home to help Harold and
Adeline Campbell celebrate 65 years
of marriage. Also present was Harold
and Adeline's niece, Alice Morrison
'of Mississauga. who spent the
weekend with them.
Many friends, neighbours and
relatives gathered at the Blyth and
District Community. Centre
auditorium on Saturday, May 29 to
help Bruce and Ula Richmond
celebrate their 45th wedding
anniversary.
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on May 30 were Myrtle Badley and
Judy Gleave. Ushering was Rob
Mason. Guest musician was Margaret
Kai.
As the children came into church
on Sunday they were given balloons
to celebrate the new chair lift.
The choir sang an anthem Sunshine
In My Heart with Leanne Haggitt and
Brandilyn Bearss, singing a special
part. The children's hymn, I Danced
in the Morning was sung as they
gathered at the front of the church
with their balloons. Rev. Eugen
Bannerman told the children that the
balloons were to help celebrate the
dedication of the new chair lift and
also the birthday of the church.
He asked the children what people
celebrated when they had balloons?
The answers were weddings,
anniversaries and so on. Balloons are
colourful and light and make people
feel good.
Rev. Bannerman, Albert Wasson
and Lavern Clark took part , in the
dedication of -the chair lift. Lavern
Clark read more than a hundred
names in memory of loved ones. The
congregation was told that the chair
lift was paid for by donations through
the years. •
The gospel reading was from Acts
2: 1-21. The psalm was repeated
responsively led by 011ie Craig with
the choir singing the response. The
hymn Will Your Anchor Hold was
sung.
Rev. Bannerman's message to t he
-adults was Something Uplifting. He
told four uplifting stories.
There is no church next Sunday.
The church service and Sunday
school awards will be from Camp
Menesetung. June 11 is the Historical
Vignette: 1920 Rev. Telford at the
Memorial Hall.
Now that it's June, it's time to put those
bedding plants in.
