`Secret Garden' opens Playhouse season
Spring is definitely in the air at
Huron Country. Playhouse in Grand
Bend as excitement grows for the
2004 season opening production of
The Secret Garden. This magical
masterpiece launches the theatre's
33rd season June 2 with one of the
most beautiful and memorable
scores in musical theatre.
Based on the children's literary
classic, The Secret Garden is an
entrancing story that beautifully
illustrates the healing power of love.
In a gloomy old estate on the
Yorkshire Moors, a grief-stricken
Archibald Craven still yearns for his
beautiful, late wife - becoming
isolated from his crippled son Colin
as a result. Their lonely existence is
turned upside down when
Archibald's young niece comes to
live with them following the death of
her parents in India.
As sullen as her new family,
Mary's feelings begin to change
when she finds a mysterious secret
garden hidden on the manor
grounds.
By releasing the magic and
adventure locked behind the garden
walls, Mary proceeds to change their
lives forever.
Twenty-one performers are
working under the direction of Diane
Nyland Proctor.
Fred Love, who has appeared in
many Drayton Entertainment
productions, as well as on Broadway,
tackles the role of Archibald
Craven.
Scott Lancastle, who appeared in
last year's production of Carousel,
plays Dr. Neville Craven. Both
brothers are in love with the
beautiful Lily, played by June
Crowley, who is making her Drayton
Entertainment debut.
Two young performers from
Seaforth — Carolyn Murray and
Thomas Murray — will appear in the
roles of Mary Lennox and Colin
Craven.

go to the woods to lose and find one
another, with some assistance from a
band of fairies and a troupe of play-
acting tradesmen.
The Festival's production is set in
a rainforest on the edge of a
