Huron East WI holds annual meeting in Brussels

The IO2 id Huron East District
Women's Institute annual meeting
was held on Tuesday. May I I in the
Melville Presbyterian Church.
Kathy Bridge. president of the
host branch Majestic. welcomed
everyone.
PAC Leone Foerter ratified the
District directors. Voting was to he
by sitting and a show of hands.
During the day many door prize
draws were held. The prizes were
donated by various businesses from
the Brussels area.
Invitations were received to attend
the Huron South. Huron West, Perth
North and Perth Centre District
annuals in May.
In August a ROSE Partner Fair is
being held at Barrie. It is the fifth
anniversary of the ROSE program.
Mrs. Kathy Bridge introduced
Jean Dunn and Marla Dykstra who
are community food advisors. They
spoke on. and demonstrated, quick
meals for one or two people. There
were several helpful hints given as
well as recipes. One of the desserts
was served at lunch.
Leona McDonald thanked them
for their informative talk.
Darlene Harding, resplendent in
her milking outfit, calf pail and all,
gave a reading, Newborn Bull Calf.
Edna McLellan presented the
cuddle blankets members had made
over the winter to the Brussels and
Grey Fire Departments. Accepting
for Brussels was Max McLellan and
Murray McArter and for Grey
Calvin Semple and Dave Diehl. The
men expressed their thanks to the
members for their donation.
Margaret E. McMahon presented
the nominations report for 2004-
2005. Those elected were duly
installed by Everdina Bender from
Perth North. •
Mrs. Foerter introduced Joy
Trimble. the provincial board
director for Western Region. If the
membership has any concerns or
questions for her she would be
pleased to try and help, she said.
Mrs. Foerter presented her PAC
report. She mentioned the ROSE
training session to be held at the
Bloomingdale Mennonite Church on
Nov. 8. It is training for the
presidents, secretaries and
treasurers. Four people may attend
and it is a bag lunch.
The new handbook is still not
available and it is hoped the war
stories being printed will be out
before Remembrance Day:
The - membership drive is to
continue for another year. There are
various prizes to be given to those
obtaining the most new members.
Subdivision 10 is responsible for
the display at the WI Hall at Milton.
The committee is looking for clothes
from the 1920s. They have also
decided to have board games on
display this year.
Mrs. Foerter mentioned that Focus
High is finished. As yet, she doesn't
have information on a new project.
FWIO has just issued a new WI
pamphlet that may be used to let
others know what WI is about.
The convenors all presented their
reports for the past year. It proved to
he a very busy one for the branches.
There were 6,435.5 volunteer hours
reported by the members.
Huron West is having a bus trip to
the Erland Lee Museum Home and
Adelaide Hunter Hoodless
Homestead on June 3/ The cost is
$40 including bus, lunch and the
tours of the homes.
President Lucy 1-lesse reviewed
the Guelph Area bylaws and asked to
have them voted on as there were
some changes.
Leona Armstrong had attended the
ACWW Conference in Tasmania
this past March. She gave some
highlights of her trip. She said there
were over 600 delegates from 70
countries in attendance.
Replacing Simon Says with WI
says Margaret McMahon and
Isabelle Hislop had the ladies up and
moving.
Ideas for a District fundraiser are
to be brought to the District
directors' meeting in August.
A report on the amalgamation with
the two Districts in Perth was given
by Mrs. McMahon. A ballot vote
was taken on the time frame the
membership would like to have the
new District annual in May 2005
begin and end. The amalgamation
committee was asked to reconsider
the day chosen for the 2005' District
annual as the last Wednesday in May
did not meet with everyone's
approval.
The subject of scholarships also
needs further discussion.
Pauline Richards gave the
courtesies for Fordwich 2005.
