The 102nd District annual
meeting of the Women's Institute
was held in Brussels on May 11. All
members of the Walton Branch were
in attendance to enjoy.the theme of
Branching Out.
The guest speaker was a
community food advisor.

was made to the BrusselS and Grey
11 at WI
meeting
The Majestic Women's Institute
met in the Brussels Library on
Wednesday. May 12 with 11 present.
President, Kathy Bridge. opened
the meeting with a poem followed
by the Ode arid Mary Stewart
Collect.
Ami Schimanski and Lindsay
Watson entertained with a couple of
musical selections.
On June 3 Huron West WI 'has a
bus trip planned to go to the
Adelaide Hoodless Home and
Erland Lee Home. There are still a
few seats available. Anyone wishing
to go may call Isabelle Hislop at
335-3881.
On June 28 there . is to be an
amalgamation meeting. More
information will follow at a later
date.
The Guelph Area convention is to
he held at Fergus Community Centre
on Oct. 21 beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Each WI Branch is to send a $10-gift
for the auction.
The next UFO Day is Sept. 11
from 10 a.m. to noon at the home of
Ruth Sauve-Schade.
Rev. Cathrine Campbell and Edna
McLellan are to set up the Majestic
WI display at the Brussels Fair.
Majestic is hoping to sponsor an
Ambassador of the Fair. If interested
in being a contestant, phone Kathy
Bridge at 887-6795. Contestants
must, be 18 years of age by Aug. 20.
On Wednesday. June 9, the
members are planning to go to
Stratford to see the breast cancer
quilt display. If interested in going.
be at the Brussels Library by 10:15
a.m.
The-Ida Evans Memorial Award is
to be presented at the Brussels
Public School graduation banquet on
June 21 and at Grey Central School
in June.
The guest speaker was Alieda
Murray of Lakelet WI. She spoke on
lobbying or resolutions. Problems
were listed, then it's decided who
created the problems. then how they
could be solved. Mrs. Murray
suggested members read their
handbook on page 81 on how to
write a resolution.
Alice Brothers thanked the
speaker and presented her with a
fruit basket.
Happy Birthday was sung to
members having a birthday in May.
Lunch was served by Edna Pletch
and Doris McCall.
Fire Departments to he used in
emergency situations.
The business was conducted about
the bursary fund and education
assistance fund. Courtesies were
from the Fordwich Branch and an
invitation to next year's meeting was
e xtended.
Murray Macleod has had some
surgery and we wish him a speedy
recovery.
Changing the landscape this week
were Steve and Theresa Baan as the
old shed was taken down at their
place.
Joining Rick and Jo-Ann
McDonald at their home for supper
on Thursday evening were family
and guests. Children LeeAnn and
Jason. Kelly and Scott and nephew
Mike Warwick with wife Chrissy
and baby Sydney along with friends.
James and Theresa of Oshawa and
Leona McDonald enjoyed a meal
and visit before Mike's departure on
Saturday morning.
Some members of the Walton
Area Sports Club cleaned up the
booth to get read for the upcoming
ball season. There will be ball

Friends and members of Duff's
United Church were greeted by
Marie Coutts and Mary Humphries.
The guest speaker in Rev. Joan
Tuchlinsky's absence was Gloria
Wilbee, who is a lay preacher in
training, taking a two-year course at
the Middlesex Presbytery Lay
School of Theology.
The service began with the
welcome and announcements.
Members of the congregation are
invited to attend the wedding
ceremony of Joan and Brian Black's
daughter.. Jennifer Black and Chad
Spaulding on Saturday, June 5 at
2:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church,
Kitchener. A community gift is being
given and donations towards it may

On Sunday, May 9. friends and
family of Emerson and Phyllis
Mitchell joined with them to
celebrate both Mother's day and
their 55th wedding anniversary.
There were 25 gathered to enjoy
dinner at Millington's and celebrate.
Matt Lee and Cheryl Thompson
travelled to St. Catharines on
`Saturday to attend the wedding of
good friend Aaron Hahn. They had a
wonderful time except for the
unfortunate lack of fuel just short of
arriving home. Clops!
It was motocross at Auburn Hills
on the weekend and it was a
beautiful day for it. The first nice
day they have had in six weeks and
over 650 entries rode in the
Provincial series race.
It was the refereeing debut
experience for Rick Oliver and
reports are he did a great job.
Riders from Walton included
Chris Lee. who finished second in
the plus-50 class, and Mitchell
Godkin, who is now second overall
in Ontario in the four to six-year-old
class.
Riding and doing very well also
be left at the Walton Inn or
McGavin's Farm Equipment.
The fundraising committee is
sponsoring a community calendar
and birth dates and anniversary dates
can be added for a cost of 25 cents
each. Contact Marie McGavin or
Marilyn McDonald. to give your
information.
Calendars will be available ,for
sale by October.
Gloria continued the service by
telling the children a story and
singing a song. The scripture reading
was by Heidi McClure.
Gloria's reflection was entitled
Follow Me.

Godkin, Matt McLellan and Brad
Sommerville.
These .boys will be racing in
Walton in June so come out and
cheer them on.
Many members of the McGavin
family travelled to Agincourt for the
celebration service of Ian
Matheson's life on Saturday. Neil,
Marie, Brian and Shelley as well as
many other family relations
attended. Our condolences to all.

The ladies of the UCW held the
May meeting at the home of Phyllis
Mitchell.
There were about 13 ladies present
to see the presentation by Helen
Miller on the Good Food Box
program. The food box is filled with
fresh fruits and vegetables and is
available once a month for a cost of
$14. They try and obtain fresh
produce from local suppliers and
farmers and promote "in season"
products.
Each community needs a co-
ordinator and at least eight members
purchasing the food boxes on a
monthly basis. •

food box she displayed at the
meeting. That was Karen Hoegy.
The business was handled by
Marie McGavin and readings were
given by Donna McClure and Dianne
McCallum.

for $7,000 to the Huron Oxford Perth cystic fibrosis chapter.
