From hats and clothes to old records and record players,
area residents searched through the wide variety of items
during a rummage sale at the St. Helens Hall on May 5. The
sale was hosted by the St. Helens Hall committee with
proceeds going towards renovations for the hall. Janet
McConnell finds some interesting books while searching
through a large collection of books and novels. (Elyse DeBruyn

IAN DAVID MATHESON
Ian David Matheson has
completed his earthly journey with
courage and dignity, and has been
reunited with his parents, Hazel and
Clarke Matheson and his dear sister
Jean.
His wish to be at home with his
family was made possible by the
devoted care of his beloved wife Pat
and his sister-in-law . Evelyn
Vesh.
Pat, and his children Kim and
Stephen Nelson, and David and
Debbie Bertoncini are left to cherish
Ian's life, his love and his
achievements. Grandpa will be
forever treasured in the hearts of
The children's story was a speech
by Sadie Tenpas on the topic of
absolutely nothing.
Referring to all the times when she
had replied to questions with
"Nothing". and that she had been
told that a speech could not be about
"nothing" , Sadie set out to prove
them wrong with quotations and
examples that proved her point in an
expressive and entertaining man-
ner.
Rev. Campbell presented the
scripture lesson of Leviticus 19: 1 -
4, 9 - 18; Acts 11: I - 18; John 13: 31
- 35 assisted by reader Jeanne
Kirkby.
The sermon, How Can You Tell,
was about the fact • that life isn't
always easy. and when people think
they have things going smoothly,
something always crops up to
present new problems. Often they

Ian's sense of humour, loyalty and
sound advice will be missed by his
extended family, his friends and
colleagues at CIBC and Canada
Savings Bonds, his Knox Church
family, and his Kiwanis. Jaycee and
Rotary Club friends.
A celebration of Ian's life will he

get too tied up in the questions to
readily see the answers.
Rev. Campbell told, as an
example, of a little boy in Grade I,
whose father had been called in to
see the teacher because the little boy
had been drawing square pumpkins.
What could be causing this serious
difficulty and how could it be
corrected?
Wisely, the father asked his son
-about the pictures, and the little boy
replied that everyone else was
making round pumpkins, and he just
wanted to make his to be dif-
ferent.
Referring to the scripture lesson of
Acts 11, Rev. Campbell said-that
Peter had been called up to explain
his actions to members of the early
church, because he was spending
time with Gentiles and eating food
that was not proper by Jewish laws.
Peter told them of his vision, and
how God had commanded him to
carry the message of salvation to all
who would hear, with no barriers
and no boundaries.
"God cares deeply for all of
creation," said Rev. Campbell, "So
let all humans live in harmony. Love
.your neighbour as yourself. But how
do we love the unlovable? It is do-
able as Peter's vision calls us to
understand that nothing is impure.
People are to accept others for what
they are and not what we would wish
them to be. In the words of Christ,
love one another as I have loved
you".
The offering was taken up by
Doug McArter, Frank Schimanski,
Maurice Douma and Bill King.
Shannon Scott will tell about her
travels in Southeast Asia as the guest
speaker at the WMS and Melville
Guild meeting on Tuesday, May 18.
At the closing of the service, the
Sunday school children distributed
Mother's Day gifts crafted during
their lessons to all the women in the
congregation.
The sympathy of the congregation
is sent to the recently bereaved
family of Ian Matheson.
