FROM LONDESBORO Gang hosts games On Monday, May 3, the Londesborough Happy Gang hosted the Solo tournament for the Tri- County region of the Seniors' Games at the Londesborough Community Hall. There were 13 tables of players. There were four games per table in the morning and six games after lunch. Winning gold were Wanda Reynolds and Roselene Bernends. Gwen McKeller and Lottie Grenier were the silver winners while John and Edith Britnell totalled for the bronze prize. Spring plants were donated to the activities by Greyhaven Gardens and Spring Breezes Greenhouse. The Old Mill sent along work gloves, Hensall Co-operative gifted $20 and the Auburn Co-op donated a bird feeder. Thr May meeting at the hall has been changed. The Blyth Seniors have invited the group to their monthly meeting on May 26 instead. Auburn's 150th registration committee is asking for volunteers to take a shift assisting at the hospitality booth. This will be where people register and receive their pre-ordered tickets and books. There will be a short meeting before the weekend of July 30 - Aug. 1. The fish fry is $10, steak dinner is $15 and the history of Auburn books are $10 each. The Auburn Horticultural Society's plant sale will be on May 17 at the Auburn Community Hall at 7 p.m. Flowers to be donated to the sale can be dropped off after 4 p.m. that day. Proceeds of the sale will go to beautifying Auburn for the year. Baptism at United Church Jacob Noah Yantzi was truly the centre of attention at Londesborough United Church on May 9. The new son of Mike and Erin (Horbanuik) Yantzi, was accepted him into the family of faith through the sacrament of baptism. Also present were grandparents and relatives. The mothers worshipping on Mother's Day were treated to two musical numbers by a men's choir. Rev. Pat Cobk's message was Unconditional Love. In the responsive psalm, Psalm 148, David exhorts all creation to praise God. John, in his gospel, chapter 13: 31-35, recounts Christ saying that the world will recognize a disciple by his/her love. The UCW meeting will be held on Monday, May 17 beginning at 7:30 p.m. with dessert. Guest speaker that evening will be Marjorie Johns telling of her recent trip to Japan. The official board will gather on Tuesday, May 18 beginning at 7:30 p.m. with the session and stewards' meeting. Members are asked to pick up the minutes of the last meeting from the narthex. An early report from the committee in charge of the spring supper and auction held on Saturday evening suggests $4,000 was raised. The pupils exemplifying the virtues for each week were recognized at that assembly. Forgiveness — this student is very forgiving of others. If someone forgets something and is apologizing, this pupil consistently responds with pleasant forgiveness. Unity — this pupil works well in class and on Earth Day she put forth a solid team effort. She also helps Mrs. Miller when scheduled at noon hours. Gentleness — this is consistently shown by a girl who is gentle in speech and actions, uses good manners always and is sensitive to other people. Five years ago Liz made the squad for the Toronto Argonauts and then cheered in Hamilton as well. Being chosen as a Buffalo Jill is a step up for Liz.
