The co-ed U-11 soccer team
called the Blyth Thunder, was off to
a very cold wet season opener on
Tuesday, May 4 at Wingham's high
school. Parents and fans sat under
their umbrellas and plastic
tablecloths while wrapped in
blankets to watch the game.
The opponents were Wingham
CIBC Golds.
Blyth players Kelly MacDonald.
Jeanette Schramm, Lucas Frawley
and Jason Young made a fantastic
defensive wall during the game.
Goaltender Greg Roetcisoender
made many saves throughout the
game.
Wingham came on strong and
scored one goal in the first half.
After a quick half-time break,
Blyth's game captain, Brent Drost
tied up the game, when he stale the
ball away from Wingham.
Wingham scored again to break
the tie.
Jacob Nonkes gave a pass to Drost
who scored a goal and once again
ere were a coup e o mi estone
events that took place for Ethel
residents this past weekend.
Congratulations to Sarah
Brubacher on her weddineand to
young Brayden Stuart Cochrane on
the occasion of his baptism.
It was also Mother's Day this past
weekend so I am sure that there was
a lot of visiting.
Stacy Bowles was home this
weekend, after her first week in the
city of Toronto working a co-op
position. I am told that she likes her
job very much,
Stacy did a good deed for me
because she gave my daughter
Melissa a ride home. Melissa has just
graduated from Humber College in
Toronto and now works at the
residence there. She was home until
Sunday night.
Sunday also brought visits from
Sarah and A.J.
Enjoy the upcoming weekend and
please let me know about upcoming
birthdays, anniversaries, weddings
etc. so that we all can share in the
happiness. Take care everyone.

Thunder plays to tie
the game was tied. Blyth kept the
momentum going and Tanner
Merner made a swift pass to Drost
for Blyth's third goal.
In the last two minutes of the
game Wingham scored to end the
game in a 3-3 tie. Coach Mary Ann
Drost said, "It was an excellent
effort by all Blyth players for their
first game of the season." The team
is sponsored by the Shriners. The
players have new yellow and blue
soccer shirts.
Well deserved
Ryan Baker, goalie for the Brussels Atom team, was the
proud recipient of the 'Don Higgins Memorial award for
outstanding goalie. Mike Vader presented Baker with the
award during the annual Brussels Minor Hockey banquet
on May 5. (Elyse DeBruyn photo)
