PAGE 3. Recently visiting at the home of Amy and Ralph McCrea were Jack and Janet Baillie of Colburg, formerly of Wingham. Visitors recently at the home of Ed and Nancy Dacr were Verna Evank of Sarnia, Joy DeSantis of California and Marilyn Craig of Blyth. Joy was in the area tracing Johnston relatives. Happy 90th birthday to Harvey McDowell on his birthday May 9. Happy 50th anniversary to Amy and Ralph McCrea as they celebrate this weekend. Happy birthday to Nancy Daer who celebrated a special birthday on May 5. The new chair lift at Blyth United Church was in operation, Sunday and Reg Hesselwood was the first person to use it. Greeting were Myrtle Badley and Judy Gleave. Ushering was Rob Mason. Guest musician was Lynda McGregor. Rev. Eugen Bannerman welcomed everyone to church for Mother's day. The choir anthem was Consolation. The children's hymn was Tell Me the Story of Jesus was sung as the children gathered at the .front. Amelia Carter-Brown and Wyatt Bearss read a poem called God is like my Mommy. Rev. Bannerman read the children a story of Brandon makes pancakes and asked Jonathan Hakkers to act Out the story as he read it. Brandon wanted to make pancakes for his mother on Mother's Day but everything went wrong. He spilled the flour, knocked the eggs to the floor. Brandon saw his father at the door and thought he was going to be scolded but instead his father gave him a hug and told him everything was fine. This is the way God picks people up when they make mistakes. The children stayed at the front while the baptism took place. Those being baptized were Jeffery Lloyd' Walden, son of Tim and Maria Walden and Joel Douglas Howson, son of Jeff and Diane Howson. Andrea Hoba, transferred her membership from Corunna. The congregation' welcomed her by repeating the mission statement. Gospel reading was from Mark 3: 31-35. Responsive Psalm 148 was led by 011ie Craig. Rev. Bannerman's message to the adults was Who is My Mother? The -Myth Swinging Seniors met April 28 in the Memorial Hall, Bernice Pierce assisted Jean Nethery in the kitchen for the potluck luncheon. Shirley Nicholson gave an excellent report on the Zone 8 United Senior Citizens of Ontario Spring Rally in Hensall. Thirteen seniors from Blyth attended. Thelma Wilson introduced guests,. Jim and Elaine Scott, whose music had some dancing, some singing, and most toe-tapping. A moment of silence was observed for Effie McCall, a faithful club member. Brock Vodden gave a brief talk on the work of the Blyth Idea Group. He showed photos and samples of new signs soon to be installed in our village. The hope is that we can emphasize an historic Blyth through the signage, walking tours, unified heritage storefront designs and murals — all of these capitalizing on the assets of our village, The club voted to donate $250 to the signage project and the same amount to the safety training centre being developed by our firefighters. A committee was formed to plan a celebration of seniors' month in May rather than in June. They are Enid MacDonald, Janis Vodden and Jim and Elsie Walsh. They are open to ideas from the membership. The 50/50 draw was won by Doris Hicks, Graeme McDowell and Shirley Nicholson. New members are always welcome. On April 24, World Tai Chi Day the Blyth club was joined by two ladies from Goderich as they did their demonstration sets on the patio at Memorial Hall. Several local people and one lady from Hamilton came to watch and try tai chi. Blyth Public School council, teachers and students would like to thank everyone who came out and supported them at their annual beef dinner Thursday, April 29 and the Grade-8 silent auction. Sympathy is extended to the family of Anna de Jong on the loss of a mother, and grandmother. Sorry to hear that Ferne McDowell is a patient in Wingham hospital and Ruth Shiell is a patient in Clinton hospital. We hope they will soon be home. Results of the last euchre for the season, with eight tables in play, are as follows: high lady, (tie) Pat Jenkins, Vera Hesselwood, 68; high man, Gord Jenkins, 69; low lady, Helen Lee, 44; low man, Thelma Johnston, 49; lone hands, Kay Konarski and Bernice McClinchey, tied with four; Jack Lee and Jean Plaetzer with three; door prize, Bill Nethery; share-the-wealth, Gord Jenkins and June Patterson. Camp Menesetung is looking for volunteers to help on May 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with their super spring clean-up day. Bring your own rakes. Lunch will be provided. Eugen Bannerman told the children about the Dalai Lama who is visiting in Canada. Wyatt Bearss and Rev. Bannerman read the dramatized gospel reading from Acts 9: 36-43. The responsive Psalm 23 was led by 011ie Craig and the choir sang the refrain. FROM BLYTH New members join legion The May meeting of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 420 opened with the installation of two new members, Ken Warwick and David McLean. Donations made over the last two months include: The Children's Aid Society's Camp Wilson, $50; Children's Health Foundation, $50; F.E. Madill Secondary School, $50; Child Abuse Prevention program of Huron County, $50: Blyth Public School and Hullett Central Public School track and field program, $200 each. Upcoming events in the work of the Legion include the joint installation of officers, May 20; fish fry and early bird elimination draw, ,June 5; Ladies Auxiliary church service and parade, June 6; and decoration service at the Blyth Union Cemetery, June 13. The next meeting will be held on June 3 at 7:30 p.m. Support would be appreciated.
