Obituaries
ANNA DE JONG
Anna Petronella (Zijm) de Jong of
Blyth passed away at Seaforth
Manor Retirement Home on
Monday: April 26, 2004. She was in
her 87th year.
She was the beloved wife of the
late Klaas de Jong (2004). She was
the loving mother of Jacob and
Margaret de Jong of Sackville, NS,
John and Sharon de Jong of
Teeswater, Trudy Huber of
Listowel, Hennie and Ben Terpstra
of Atwood, Mary Ann and John
Vernooy of Bright, Catherine and
Charles Terpstra of Brussels, Lia and
Jack Snell of Exeter, Peter and
Joanne de Jong of Cayley, Alberta.
Bill and Kim de Jong of Warren,
Rick de Jong and Karen of
Kitchener, Clarence and Sandy de
Jong of Winnipeg and Steven and
Four members were honoured for
25 years of service at the annual
meeting of the Auxiliary to
Wingham and District Hospital.
Mary Lou Cameron presented the
awards to Hilda Brown, Noreen
Gnay, Ann Goodall and Catherine
Wilson.
The next executive officers were
installed by past president Marie
Phillips. Committee convenors were
named as follows: honorary
president, Doris Michie; past
president, Brenda Anger; president,
Margaret Mann; secretary, Myrla
Frank; treasurer, Mary Lou
Cameron; corresponding secretary,
Marilyn Wood; membership
secretary, Noreen Gnay; historian,
Marie de Jong of Kitchener. She was
loved and will be sadly missed by 40
grandchildren and 40 great-
grandchildren. Mrs. de Jong is also
survived by one sister Hendrika
Zijm and six brothers Peter, Willem,
Derek, Nico, Johari and Jacob Zijm.
all of the Netherlands, one sister-in-
law Anna de Jong of Australia and
several nieces and nephews in the
Netherlands.
She was predeceased by three
granddaughters in infancy and by
one sister Corry (Mrs. Peter Maas)
of the Netherlands.
Friends were received at the Blyth
Visitation Centre of the Falconer
Funeral Homes Ltd., 407 Queen St.,
Blyth on Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 -
9 p.m. Parish prayers were held
Thursday at 4 p.m.
The funeral mass was held at St.
Isabel Arbuckle; book cart, Pat
Gaunt; bridge, Marlene Leedham
and Marie Phillips; gift shop, Helen
McKague, Marie Phillips, Jean
Leitch; teen volunteers, Rosemary
LaRose; tray favours, Shirley
Kaufman; rummage sale, Mary Lou
Bourne, Debbie Currie, Lois
Baynton.
Lewis Flowers will continue to
decorate the trellis in the main hall
with appropriate seasonal flowers.
Members are invited to attend the
health day barbecue held by the
hospital board on the hospital lawn
at noon on May 12.
Helen McKague reported that the
gift shop had a successful year
despite being closed for a period
Ambrose Roman Catholic Church,
Brussels on Friday, April 30 at II
a.m.
Interment was in St. Ambrose
Cemetery, Brussels. Father John
Johnson officiated.
Flowerbearers were her daughters
Trudy Huber, Hennie Terpstra, Mary
Ann Vernooy, Catherine Terpstra
and Lia Snell.
Pallbearers were her sons Jacob.
John. Peter, Bill, Rick, Clarence and
Steve de Jong.
Memorial donations to Seaforth
Community Hospital or to the
Wingham Catholic Cluster (church
of your choice).
Funeral arrangements were
entrusted to Falconer Funeral Homes
Ltd.
MABEL BERNICE SMITH
Mabel Bernice (McCallum) Smith
because of SARs. She thanked the
many volunteers who staffed the
shop afternoons and evenings.
Sixty players plus spares enjoyed
monthly hospital bridge in Wingham
and Lucknow. The final bridge night
.will be held at the Masonic Hall in
Wingham on May 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Current magazines are needed by
the book cart committee who place
books and magazines in the waiting
areas of the hospital.
The Auxiliary has purchased new
t-shirts for the teen volunteers. They
are trained and supervised by
RosemarY LaRose. There are now
eight volunteers and four more are
being trained. High school students
may use their volunteer hours as
of Listowel, and formerly of
Brussels passed away at Listowel
Memorial Hospital, on Thursday,
April 29, 2004.
Born in East Wawanosh Twp. on
Oct. 18, 1918, Mabel was in her 86th
year.
She was the beloved wife of the
late George Robert Smith. She was
the dear mother of Louise Shaw and
her husband Pete of Listowel,
Bernice McWhirter and her husband
George of Waterloo, Donna Plant of
Leduc, Alberta, Gordon Smith and
his wife Kathy of Milverton and
Susan Pierce and her husband Mike
of Edmonton. She was a dear sister-
in-law to Karen McCallum of
Belgrave. Mrs. Smith was also loved
by her 13 grandchildren, 13 great-
grandchildren and many nieces and
nephews.

District Conference to be held in
Stratford on May 26.
She was predeceased by one great-
grandchild.

family on Sunday from 2 - 4 and 7 -
9 p.m. at the Schimanski Family
Funeral Home, Brussels, where the
funeral was held Monday, May 3 at 2
p.m. with Rev. Mark Davidson
officiating.
Pallbearers were Steven Pierce,
Christopher Pierce, Bill Plant,
Kristian Smith, George McWhirter
and David McWhirter.
Interment was at Brussels
Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy,
memorial donations may be made to
the Circle of Care of Listowel
Hospital or to the charity of one's
choice.
