Many a Sabbath l look in vain for Church last Sunday morning were Collection was taken up by Jeff some of you in church. You are Elaine and Brian Armstrong. Cardiff, Bill King, Doug McArter, missed when you arc absent and With Rev. Cathrine Campbell presiding and Crystal McLellan as organist, the congregation answered the call to worship and sang the hymn; Morning Has Broken. Members of the junior choir contributed the anthem, If I were a Butterfly, for this Earth Day service. Then led by Rev. Campbell, Psalm 23 was read responsively. The children gathered at the front of the sanctuary following the singing of All Things Bright and Beautiful, and Rev. Campbell showed them her collection or rocks. She has picked them up on her travels, stones of quartz, granite and slate from Scotland. "Rocks are useful, from the tall mountains down to the small pebbles of gravel and sand," Rev., Campbell said. "Everything in God's world has a purpose, and no matter how big or small, you're part of God's purpose." The scripture lesson of Numbers 27: 11:33; Acts 9: 36-43 and John 10: 22-30 was read by Rev. Campbell with assistance from Matthew Cardiff. In her sermon, No Secrets Here, Rev. Campbell talked of a book she has been reading entitled The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown. She found the best selling novel to be enjoyable, suspenseful and generally a good read, but full of secret codes and puzzles to be solved in the work of Leonardo Da Vinci. For instance in his painting of The Last Supper, one may find an extra person with red hair who may or may not be a woman. It is these things that the plot of the novel is based. Rev. Campbell said to- take these little codes and mysteries with a dose of salt and remember that this book is a novel, not a truthful account. What one gets from it comes from one's interpretation. Soinetimes people create secrets where there are none. Rev. Campbell referred to the John 10 scripture and said that the message of Jesus is not a secret hidden away. The love of God for Moses allowed him to choose his successor Joshua. "All are cared for because that is what God wants; said Rev. Campbell. "The Bible is as it is. The congregation sang. It is No Secret What God Can Do. Following the service, Rev. Campbell led all of the congregation outdoors for the dedication of the anniversary commemorative rock on the front lawn of the church. This granite boulder was located and acquired by Gordon Mitchell and Maurice Douma. It has been placed under the oak tree with assistance from Bill King and Rev. Campbell. Pictures were taken and in her prayers, Rev. Campbell dedicated it to the memory of the good stewards of the past whose efforts and foresight gave members the church in which they now celebrate after 150 years. A thanks to all who attended and donated food and assistance to make the Springtime Supper last Sunday such a success was extended. Melville Monzents... by Gerald Gibson 1910 From the Reverend A. C. Wishart. "Another milestone has been reached, another cycle has been run and our tents are pitched a year's march nearer home, nothing treads as silent as the foot of time. Let me again urge greater regularity of attendance on the part of many. your example is discouraging for the Minister and hurtful to others. Many of your faces I see around town on Saturday or through the week, whose face I do not see on Sunday in the sanctuary. Friends, this ought not to be. The voice of God calls you to the house of prayer every Sabbath Day. May you not disregard the call. Make this one of the resolutions for 1911 and endeavour to stick to it. May faith, hope and love increase more and more until the day dawns and, the shadows fade away."
