Brussels Livestock report
Fed steers, heifers sell on steady market
Total receipts - for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending April
29 were 4,045 head of cattle. 631
lambs and goats.
On Tuesday the fed steers and
heifers sold on a steady market.
Fancy and double-muscle steers and
heifers sold $90 to $97 with sales up
to $107.25. Choice steers and heifers
sold $87 to $90 and second-cut
steers and heifers sold $82 to $87.
The cows also traded at prices
steady to last week.
On Thursday the veal sold under.
pressure and the lambs sold on a
sharply lower trade. On Friday the
calves sold on a steady market while
the yearlings traded at prices $2 to
$4 lower.
There were 594 steers on offer. D.
M. McAlphine, Ailsa Craig, con-
signed one limousin steer weighing
1.480 lbs. which sold for $107.26.
Their overall. offering of seventy-
three steers averaged 1,552 lbs. sell-
, ing for an average price of $93.43.
Thirty-six steers consigned by Allan
Lewis. Ailsa Craig. averaged 1,430
lbs. which sold for an average price
of $94.26. with his top limousin
steer weighing 1,305 lbs. selling to
Dominion Meat Packers for $107.
Enoch Martin, Linwood, consigned
one limousin steer weighing 1,495
lbs. which sold to Norwich Packers
tor $100. His overall offering of thir-
teen steers averaged 1.446 lbs. sell-
ing for an average price of $97.64.
One charolais steer consigned by
Owen B. Martin. Wellesley. weighed
1.550 lbs. which sold for $100. His
overall offering of seventeen sters
averaged 1.422 :lbs. selling for an
average price of $92.87. Al Renning,
Exeter. consigned one limousin steer
weighing 1,450 lbs. which sold for
S99.25. His overall offering of fif-
teen steers averaged 1.506 lbs. sell-
dig for an average price of $92.50.

overall offering of twelve heifers

averaging 1,362 lbs. which sold for

Wroxeter. averaged 1,143 lbs. sell-
ing for an average price of $86 with
sales up to $91.75. Leneray Farms
Ltd.. Brussels, consigned thirty-six
heifers averaging 1,433 lbs. which
sold for an average price of $85.70
with their top gold heifer weighing
1,410 lbs. selling for $103.25.

Farms. Woodstock, averaged 1.307

weighing 1,255 lbs. selling for

sales to $56.50; D3, $20 to $25; D4.

Ross Brindley. Goderich, consigned
one black cow weighing 1,760 lbs.
which sold for $56.50. His overall
offering of three beef cows averaged
1,488 lbs. selling for an average
price of $47.80. One charolais cow
consigned by Tom Reinhart,
Mildmay, weighed 1,805 lbs. which
sold for $50 and one red wf cow
weighing 1,125 lbs. selling for $34.
Bill Scriven, Ayton, consigned one
limousin cow weighing 1,395 lbs.
which sold for $49.50.
There were nine bulls on offer
selling from $19 to $48 with sales to
$52. Robert Shetler, Lucknow, con-
sighed one limousin bull weighing
1,585 lbs. which sold for $49. One
limousin bull consigned by Robert
Graf, Walkerton, weighed 1,555 lbs.
selling for $28.
There were 99 head of veal on
offer. Good Holstein sold $55 to $70
with sales to $77; Medium Holstein,
$40 to $50. Mark Pfeffer, Clifford,
consigned two holstein veal steers
averaging 617 lbs. which . sold to
Newmarket Meat Packers for $77.
His overall offering of seven hol-
stein veal steers averaged 611 lbs.
selling for an average price of
$74.16.
One holstein veal steer consigned
by Hans Sturzenegger, Auburn,
weighed 740 lbs. selling for $65.
John Martin. Lucknow, consigned
one holstein veal steer weighing 730
lbs. which sold to Newmarket Meat
Packers for $65. His overall offering
of seven holstein veal steers aver-
aged 725 lbs. selling for an average
price of $64.14.

There were 769 head on offer at
the vaccinated calf and yearling sale
April 26. The calves and yearlings
both sold on a strong active trade
with the market steady to Friday's
higher prices.

$103; 400 - 499 lbs., $110 to $132;
500 - 599 lbs., $111.50 to $130; 600
- 699 lbs., $101 to $127; 700 - 799
lbs., $96 to $113; 800 - 899 lbs., $94
to $101.25; 900 - 999 lbs., $88.25 to
$93; 1,000 lbs. and over, $81.50 to
$87.50.
Heifers, 300 - 399 lbs., sold to
$118; 400 - 499 lbs., $110 to $116;
500 - 599 lbs., $100 to $117; 600 -
699 lbs., $87.50 to $115; 700 - 799
lbs., $82 to $106; 800 - 899 lbs.,
$82.50 to $96; 900 lbs. and over, $72
to $85.
