THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, MAY 6, 2004. PEOPLE AROUND AUBURN The Auburn Horticultural Society is holding its annual plant sale on May 17 at 7 p.m. sharp at the Auburn Community Hall. The plants can he dropped off at 4 p.m. All proceeds from the sale will help spruce up Auburn for the year. This year is even more important due to the fact that Auburn is having its 150th celebration. Everyone is welcome to donate plants and attend the plant sale. The Auburn Lions will meet on May 5 at 7:15 p.m. at the Auburn Community Hall with the Auburn Women's Institute catering. My mother drew a distinction between achievement and success. Spring has well and truly arrived and that means it is time for the annual Spring Blossom Ride at the Hullett Provincial Wildlife Area. Each year at this time Friedy and Hugo Bontrup of Home On The Range. host a day-long trail ride to raise money for the work of the Friends of Hullett. This year the event will be taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday May 9. The ride will begin at the Bontrup ranch. east of Londesborough. on Londesborough Road. The ride will move through the ranch and into the Hullett Marsh where riders will be able to observe the waterfowl inhabiting the ponds near the trails. At noon the group will stop for soup and sandwiches. After the break tor lunch the Tide will continue in the afternoon as the group gets a chance to cross some of the 30 kilometres of trails and dykes, which help .control the water levels at Hullett. It is not unusual for marsh users to see heaver, muskrat, ducks and deer, all on one trip. Riders will return to the Bontrup's ranch between 4 and 5 p.m., where they can enjoy a Chinese buffet for $10 if they wish to relax before heading home. ATV stolen from shed On April 29 at 7 a.m. a person contacted OPP over the theft of an ATV. The victim told police that the machine was at a driving shed located on Moncrieff Road in Huron East. Taken was a red, now faded pink, 1991 Polaris 4X4 250 cc ATV with Ontario plates 47DJ2. If you can help solve this crime contact the Huron OPP or Crime Stoppers at I-800-222-8477(TIPS). Majestic WI hosts euchre The Majestic Women's Institute of Brussels held a casserole supper followed by euchre in the Brussels Library on April 29. There was a very good attendance. All of the proceeds from this event went to the Canadian Cancer Society. The 50/50 draw was won by Jeanne Ireland and Bill Craig. The following won prizes at euchre: high, Shirley Kingsley, Vera Hesselwood; low, Jeanne Ireland, Elunid McNair; most lone hands. Isabelle Craig, Mary Huether. Lucky tally winners were: Ann Elliott, Joanne McDonald, Helen Gallop, Leona McDonald, Mary Davidson, Bush Whittard, Mary Craig, Ross Cunningham, lean Bewley and Alan Edgar. The Majestic Institute raised $200 for the Cancer Society.
