My mother drew a distinction
between achievement and success.
Spring has well and truly arrived
and that means it is time for the
annual Spring Blossom Ride at the
Hullett Provincial Wildlife Area.
Each year at this time Friedy and
Hugo Bontrup of Home On The
Range. host a day-long trail ride to
raise money for the work of the
Friends of Hullett. This year the
event will be taking place from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday May 9.
The ride will begin at the Bontrup
ranch. east of Londesborough. on
Londesborough Road. The ride will
move through the ranch and into the
Hullett Marsh where riders will be
able to observe the waterfowl
inhabiting the ponds near the trails.
At noon the group will stop for
soup and sandwiches. After the
break tor lunch the Tide will
continue in the afternoon as the
group gets a chance to cross some of
the 30 kilometres of trails and dykes,
which help .control the water levels
at Hullett. It is not unusual for marsh
users to see heaver, muskrat, ducks
and deer, all on one trip.
Riders will return to the Bontrup's
ranch between 4 and 5 p.m., where
they can enjoy a Chinese buffet for
$10 if they wish to relax before
heading home.

A new friend
Despite the bad weather, many people were out and about
looking for new treasures throughout Auburn during the
villagewide yard sale on May 1. Residents found that one
person's junk is another person's treasure and Caitie
MacDonald proved it when she found a stuffed snowman
at one of the many sales. (Elyse DeBruyn photo)
