Huron East District Women's
Institute held its annual Associated
Country Women of the World
(ACWW) church service on Sunday,
April 25 at Brussel Mennonite
Felldwship. The theme was The 10th
Anniversary Year of the Family.
Worship leader was Pat Pietrek.
Marg Greig of the Howick Branch
conducted the children's' story. She
related how a little boy planted a
sunflower seed and was disappoint-
ed when his expectations of it reach-
ing the sky weren't realized.
The sunflower grew the way God
meant it to and the little boy learned
that he could pick the seeds and
:share them with his firends.
This is the way of the Women's
Institute with the ACWW. They
share what they have with others in
countries less fortunate than theirs.
Leone Foerter spoke of the
ACWW and what it does throughout
the world. ACWW is the largest
international organization of rural
women and homemakers. It has a
unique down-to-earth approach in
offering mutual support, friendship
and practical help to its members.

The membership currently stands
at nine million through the 365
member societies in over 70 coun-
tries of which Canada is one.
ACWW funds support for a wide
range of development programs
such as water projects, skill training,
small business initiative and
HIV/AIDS awarenss.
Right now there is a project under-
way in India to help with the break-
ing up of stones. Ontario gave
$2,500 towards this project. They've
also dug five spring wells with
'money from ACWW.
The loose collection from
Sunday's church service was des-
tined for ACWW projects,
The District choir participated
with the service by singing, Love,
Love, Love, Just A Little Word of
Love, and Go Now in Peace.
They were led by Aleta Murray
and pianist was Judith Ann Douglas.
The scripture reading was by Lucy
Hesse from Ruth 1:1-18, which
Pastor Brent Kipfer used as the basis
for his message.
The congregation and members
were invited to partake of a lunch
prepared by the Majestic and Walton
Branches.
