WMS leads service At the Cranbrook Presbyterian Church on Sunday WMS Mission Awareness Sunday was observed. Members taking part in the church service were Freda Crawford. Donna Knight. Eleanor Stevenson, Yvonne Knight and organist Madelene Steiss. The gUest speaker was Joe Taylor, executive director of Evangel Hall a downtown Toronto mission centre sponsored by the Presbyterian Church in Canada. He showed slides of the history starting in 1913 - to the present time. • Joe told of the family-like atmosphere at the centre where people in trouble can seek help and understanding. Included is a drop-in centre. thrift shop, councillors and church services on Sunday. There are plans for a new larger building which would also have room for overnight accommodation and more drop-in space. Residents attend Oddfellows' dinner Worst-case scenario On April 23, members of Huron East's Municipal Control Group took part in their first training session using the scenario of a tornado destroying major water and hydro supplies, before ravaging a subdivision in Seaforth. (Andrea Hruska photo) Many Cranbrook and area residents enjoyed the chicken supper prepared at JR's and served at the BMG auditorium on Wednesday night. The Oddfellows Lodge hosted the dinner, draws and entertain- ment. Anne Cooper. Shirley and Isaac Baker were lucky draw winners from this area. After the meal many toes were tapping to the music of singer, songwriter, and recording artist, Kiley Joe Masson from Ingersoll. Did you get out and enjoy Earth Day on Thursday? It's really great to The County of Huron successfully conducted a test of its emergency management plan on April 22. The half-day, table-top exercise brought together key decision- makers that would be involved in managing a county emergency. Participants included warden Bill . Dowson, CAO Larry Adams, the county's senior management team and support staff from all departments. Representatives from OPP, - Red Cross, Emergency Medical Services. Victim Services, and lower tier municipal representatives were also involved. The exercise, based on a fictional scenario, was designed to test a range of capabilities including technology, communications and decision-Inking processes. The annual test took place at the County's Emergency Operations Centre. The location of the see the spring flowers already in bloom. Area residents took part in the Huron East District Women's Institute church service on Sunday at Brussels Mennonite Fellowship. WI members provided choir music, read the scripture, and served lunch to all after church. Many enjoyed eating out on Sunday night at the springtime outside work. It won't be long until the lawns will need cutting. I am sure that the United Church ladies will be hard at work the next couple of days getting a lot of delicious food ready for the church supper. If you don't feel like cooking on Sunday night, make sure you come out to Grey Central school- for supper. I know I will be. Again I would like to ask anyone in Ethel or the surrounding area to give me a call with any news that should be included in this column. It is only as good as we all make it.
