At the Branch
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The week at the Brussels legion
Branch started with the general
meeting held on Tuesday evening.
April 20. There were only 15
members of Branch 218 in
attendance.
In attendance to run the election of
officers were District Commander
Eric Ross and Zone Commander
Shirley Chalmers.

Doesn't spring just give your whole
life a lift? There's the happy hopping
robin busy getting her new home
ready for the kids. the whirl of wheels
from bikes, skates and boards and the
shouts and laughter of children
playing outside. Yes life is good. All
these are free for us to share and can
be very entertaining even from the
window or porch. If you need a little
mood elevation make time to listen to
the world around you.
Our apologies
The student in the front page
picture of last week's issue of The
Citizen was incorrectly identified.
Kelby Krotz was_ putting the final
touches on her Tech 2l
woodworking project.
We apologize for the error.
The regular business of the Branch
was conducted with special note that
the Branch is in very poor financial
shape at this time and that it needs a
very successful silent auction this
week to help restore financial
footing.
Donations are coming in nicely.
The new offices will assume their
offices as of June 1. At that time
Comrade Norm Dobson will be
Centre
Cooking lessons weren't needed
last week as many people were eating
out and at the same time supporting
our local charities. One lady cruising
the grocery store mentioned that there
were five dinners available last week
for folks to attend. So after doing
your part to support all the good
causes by eating for them, you may
need to hit the lettuce just a little
harder this week. But it was worth
every bite.
The Maitland Conservation
Foundation held its 16th fundraising
dinner at the BMG Community
Centre on Friday night. This annual
event almost guarantees a good time.
Their support groupls ready to have
fun with all -the good folks who see
the Wawanosh Nature Centre as an
important part of our environmental,
community.
The staff at Maitland Valley goes
president of Branch 218. Other
executive positions elected were: first
vice-president. Jo-Ann McDonald;
second vice-president Andy
Overholt; secretary, Allyson Cardiff;
treasurer, Julie Harrison; executive,
Mabel Glanville, Dale Sauve, Mike
Dauphin and Greg Wilson. A joint
installation will be held with Seaforth
on May 14 in Seaforth. All members
are invited to attend.
Comrades under the weather
include Sandy Huether and Bob
Cochrane who are both recuperating
at home.
On Thursday evening, a meeting by
the Huron County Dairy Producers
was held at the Brussels Legion.
Downstairs, the dart league had 14
taking aim at the boards. Finishing
first were John Harrison and Lynda
Shaw. Coming in second were Paul
Gross and Jo-Ann McDonald. The
high shot was by Tammy Thom with
103 and John Harrison with 132.
High finishes were shot by Paul
Gross with 77 and Sandra Josling
with a 79.
Having one poor game were Julie
Harrison, Adam Smith and Sandra
Josling when they failed to score a
point.
The Friday night supper of roast
beef was well attended. This week is
goulash.
Saturday was busy at the Branch as
both darts and euchre were played.
The Huron County men's dart league
had its final doubles dart day. There
were over 60 competing for top spot,
including some local men.
The overall winners for the doubles
champions were Clint Emmrich and
Trevor Little. • The Sunday night singles dance
out of their way to make this a very
special night. It was rumoured that
Lloyd Glanville was seen picking
wild flowers for the occasion. Nice
arrangements Lloyd.
The items donated to support the
nature centre-advertise that the people
donating see the need for the centre,
as it opens its fields and river to
nearly 6,000 school children each
year. Good work staff.
You still have a few days to contact
the Hike for Hospice folks to sup-port
the Palliative Care Network. A nice
walk in Wingham on Sunday
afternoon with a few sponsors would
give everyone a spring lift. Kathy
Procter and Muriel Coultes would
celebrate if you called them by
Saturday.
Enjoy your week. I'm hoping to
catch up with a brother or two .
Bye now, Betty G.W.
had a great crowd with over 90 in
attendance: Music was by the Ken
Scott Orchestra. The next dance is in
two weeks on Mother's Day.
Keep saving pop tabs and bring
them into the Branch. They will be
heading to Eiora in early June.
We are still accepting knee laps and
appreciate all who have been making
them. They are going to be
disiributed in September so there's
still time to work on them or bring
them to the Branch.
A reminder that anyone wishing to
see the provincial service officer
needs to contact Comrade Mabel
Glanville immediately.
