Obituaries
JOHN A. McCUTCHEON
John Andrew "Jack" McCutcheon
of Brussels passed away on Tuesday,
March 30, 2004 at Huronlea Home
for the Aged. Jack was in his 92nd
year.
Jack was born in Kilmore, Ireland
on April 24, 1912. In 1927, at the age
of 14, he travelled from Ireland to
Canada with his parents, two
brothers and one sister. The
McCutcheons settled in the Ingersoll
area where Jack had many jobs from
driving a team of horses to working
in a cheese factory and stone factory.
In 1942, he married Margaret
Durst and they had one son, David.
In 1957, Jack purchased the
grocery store in Brussels from Kaye
and Ned Rutledge. Jack delivered
groceries for many years, enjoying
his visits with all the good folks of
Brussels.
Marg and Jack were faithful
members of Melville Presbyterian
Church. Jack joined the International
Order of Oddfellows in 1960.
Marg and Jack retired in 1977 and
had many years of enjoyment with
their friends and neighbours.
Margaret's passing in 1994
brought another change and his later
years were spent in the Highland
Apartments and the Braemar and
Huronlea nursing homes under the
care of wonderful staff.
Jack was the beloved husband of
the late Margaret Durst and dear
father of David McCutcheon and his
wife Janet of Brussels. He was the
dear brother of Dave McCutcheon
and his wife Pearl of Woodstock,
Ruby Goulding and her husband
Walt of London and Beulah
McCutcheon of Ingersoll. He was
the dear grandfather of Karen Smith
and her husband David of
Cranbrook, Jackie Glanville and her
husband Robert of RR4, Walton and
Andrew McCutcheon and his wife
Darlene of Brussels. Jack was a
loving great-grandfather to Evan,
Kelsey, Joelle, Melissa, Edward, and
Avery. He was also loved by his in-
laws Gordon Parr, Ruth and Roy
Durst, Mae and Lou Ebel, Dorothy
and Bob Collins and Joyce and. Don
Badger.
Jack was predeceased by his
brother Bert.
Cremation has taken place with
the interment of cremated remains at
Brussels Cemetery in the spring.
Friends were received by the
family one hour prior to an
Oddfellows service, under the
auspices of Western Star Lodge No.
149, IOOF, which was followed by
the celebration of the life of Jack on
Saturday, April 3 at 2 p.m. at the
Schimanski Family Funeral Home
with . Rev. Cathrine Campbell
officiating. Remembrances of Jack
were given by his granddaughter
Karen. Hymns for the service were
What a Friend We Have in Jesus and
Amazing Grace.
Afterwards the family and friends
gathered at Melville Presbyterian
Church for a reception and
fellowship.
As an expression of sympathy,
memorial donations may be made to
Melville Presbyterian Church or to
the Huronlea Auxiliary.
MARGUERITE KRAUTER, RN
Marguerite E. (Lester) Krauter,
RN of Brussels, passed away
peacefully on Thursday, April 1,
2004 at Huronlea Home for the Aged
in her 85th year.
Marguerite was the dearly loved
wife and best friend of the late John
Calvin Krauter for 51 years.
Marguerite was dedicated to her
family and her chosen profession as
a nurse, first in Hamilton and then in
Brussels..
She was the daughter of the late
Ebbie and Lena Lester of Woodburn,
Ontario. She was the dear mother of
Lt. Col. David Krauter and his wife
Lynne of Kanata and Kathi Wilson
and her husband Joe of Ilderton. She
was the loving grandmother of Blair
Krauter and his wife Becky of
Wixom, Michigan, Kendra Bertuzzi
and her husband Mario of Ottawa,
Jessica Wilson-Abra and her
husband Andy of Guelph, Luke
Wilson of Toronto and Rebecca
Wilson of Ilderton. Marguerite was
also loved by her great-
grandchildren Tanner, Rhiannon and
Alyssa.
She was predeceased by her
brother Wesley.
Friends were received by the
family from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m.
Sunday at the Schimanski Family
Funeral Home, Brussels. The funeral
service was conducted from Melville
Presbyterian Church, Brussels on
Monday, April 5 at 2 p.m. with Rev.
Cathrine Campbell officiating.
Hymns for the service were Abide
With Me and Nearer My God to
Thee.
Janna Dodds, RN sang Amazing
Grace accompanied by organist
Mary Douma as a tribute to
Marguerite.
Pallbearers were Jeff Cardiff,
Maurice Douma, Bill Aitchison,
Lloyd Smith, Jim Bowman and
John Exel.
Spring interment will be at
Brussels Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy,
memorial donations may be made to
Melville ' Presbyterian Church,
Brussels, or to the Arthritis Society.
DORETHY LUCY
ARMSTRONG
Mrs. Dorethy Lucy Armstrong, 88,
a resident of Birchwood Terrace,
passed away peacefully at the Lake
ofIthe Woods District Hospital, on
Wednesday, March 17, 2004 with
her family by her side.
She was born on April 30, 1915 in
Rainy River, Ontario, where she was
raised and educated. She married
James Arthur Armstrong and they
had six boys. They raised their
family in the communities of Blyth
and Fort Frances before settling in
Kenora in the early 1960s.
She was the owner/operator of a
registered kennel (DLA Kennels) at
Longbow Lake for many years. She
raised various small breeds of dogs.
Dorethy loved to travel and was an
avid reader. She had a wonderful
attitude towards life and was very

of Jesus' life, not just his passion and
death. It is linked to Jesus' love and
care for the poor, for his standing
with the outcasts, and so many other
acts of justice and compassion. To
me, the resurrection does not mean
the suffering was worth it; it means
that wrong does not have the final
say in life.
So who should see Gibson's The
Passion of the Christ?
Those who love extreme human
positive and humorous.
She was predeceased by her
husband Jim in January 1978 and her
son Alvin in 1983:
Dorethy will be lovingly
remembered by her sons and
daughters-in-law Don and Irene of
Ear Falls, ON, Frank and Loraine of
Edmonton, AB, David of
Chilliwack, BC, kiln of Ottawa, '
ON, and Bill and Rosemarie of
Winnipeg, MB. She will also be
missed by 16 grandchildren, eight
great-grandchildren and a special
friend Leroy.
Cremation has taken place and a
memorial service will take place this
summer. Interment will be in the
family plot, with her husband and
son, in Lake of the Woods Cemetery.
As expressions -of sympathy,
donations to the Kenora and District
Humane Society, 124 Chipman St.,
Kenora, ON P9N 4E4 would be
appreciated.
