Brussels Livestock report
3,117 lambs and goats sell at market
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending Apr. 2
were 2,272 head of cattle, 3,117
lambs and goats. On Tuesday the fed
steers and heifers sold at prices $1 to
$2 lower. Fancy and double muscle
steers and heifers sold $85 to $94.25;
choice steers and heifers, $78 to $83;
second-cut steers and heifers, $75 to
$80: The good cows traded steady
while the plainer cows sold $1 to $2
lower. On Thursday the veal sold on
a steady market. The lambs sold on a
strong active trade with prices
sharply higher on the Easter market.
On Friday all weights and classes of
stockers sold on a steady market.
There were 369 steers on offer.
Emerson L. Martin, Linwood, con-
signed two limousin steers averaging
1,343 lbs. which sold for $94.25. His
overall offering of fifteen steers
averaged 1,312 lbs. selling for an
average price of $90.27. Forty steers
consigned by Allan Lewis, Ailsa
Craig, averaged 1.408 lbs. selling for
an average price of $82.95 with his
top black steer weighing 1,365 lbs.
selling for $93.25.
Al Renning, Exeter, consigned one
limousin steer weighing 1,475 lbs.
which sold for $89.25. His overall
offering of forty steers averaged
1.431 lbs. selling for an average
price of $83.26. Two black steers
consigned by Jim Brand, Dashwood,
averaged 1358 lbs. selling for an
average price of $83.01 with sales tip
to $86.75. Fanholm Farms,
Fullarton, consigned two black steers
averaging 1,445 lbs. which sold for
an average price of $81.59 with sales.

steer weighing 1,540 lbs. selling for
$86.25. Robert Mitchell, Listowel,
consigned one limousin steer weigh-
ing 1,165 lbs. which sold for $88.25.
' His overall offering of ten steers
averaged 1,325 lbs. selling for an
average price of $79.63. John Ford,
Corunna, consigned two limousin
steers averaging 1,195 lbs. which
sold to Holly Park Meat Packers for
$85. His overall offering of twenty
steers averaged 1,312 lbs. selling for
an average price of $79.31. Eighteen
steers consigned by Elmer W. Frey.
Drayton, averaged 1,460 lbs. selling
for an average price of $78.46 with
his top gold steer weighing 1,415 lbs.

There were 156 heifers on offer.

one limousin heifer weighing 1.410
lbs. which sold for $92.25. His over-
all offering of three heifers averaged
1,332 lbs. selling for an average
price of $86.33. One black heifer
consigned by Terry Dalton,
Lucknow, weighed 1,140 lbs. which
sold for $88.75. His overall offering
of ten heifers averaged 1,275 lbs.

signed by Bruce Dale, Centralia,
aver4ed 1,396 lbs. selling for an
average price of $80.62 with sales to
$83.50.
Barry Shaw, Bluevale, consigned
one black heifer weighing 1,190 lbs.
which sold for $80. Six heifers con-
signed by Henk Van Schaik, Blyth,
averaged 1,264 lbs. selling for an
average price of $79.71 with his top
blonde heifer weighing 1,325 lbs.
selling for $86.50. Lyle, Dave and
Elwin Noble, consigned one charo-
lais heifer weighing 1,265 lbs. which
sold for $88.25. Their overall offer-
ing of nine heifers averaged 1,242
lbs. selling for an average price of
$78.65.
One black heifer consigned by
John Rodges, Goderich, weighed
1,230 lbs. which sold to Dominion
Meat Packers for $81. His overall
offering of five heifers averaged
1,157 lbs. selling for" an average
price of $77.82. Ten heifers con-
signed by Franklin Roney, Staffa,
averaged 1,284 lbs. selling for an
average price of $77.58 with his top
limousin heifer weighing 1,200 lbs.
selling for $81.75. Ron Dougall,
Exeter, consigned two charolais
heifers averaging 1,568 lbs. which
sold for $84.25. His overall offering
of forty heifers averaged 1,434 lbs.
selling for an average price of $77.
Four heifers consigned by Jim Shaw,
Bluevale, averaged. 1,396 lbs. selling
for an average price of $76.56 with
his top gold heifer weighing 1,490
lbs. selling for $79.25.
There were 232 cows on offer. DI
and D2 cows sold $30 to $40 with
sales to $54.50; D3, $20 to $25; D4,
$10 to $15. One limousin cow con-
signed by Thomas D. Miller,
Brussels, weighed 1,405 lbs. which
sold to Holly Park Meat Packers for
$54.50. His overall offering of three
beef cows averaged 1,435 lbs. selling
for an average price of $40.91.
Karen Bowles, Brussels, con-
signed one simmental cow weighing
1,505 lbs. which sold for $47.50. Her
overall offering of three simmental
cows averaged 1,373 lbs. selling for
an average price of $33.88. Six
charolais cows consigned by John
Saunders, Markdale, averaged 1,533
lbs. selling for an average price of
$42.40 with sales up to $47.
There were seven bulls on offer
selling from $20 to $30 with sales to
$36.50. Howard Farms Inc.,
Goderich, consigned one charolais
bull weighing 1,860 lbs. which sold
to Dominion Meat Packers for
$36.50. One simmental bull con-
signed by Ronald Mowat,
Richmond, weighed 2,240 lbs. which
sold to Levinoff Meat Packers for
$30.
There were 188 head of veal on
offer. Good Holstein sold $60 to $75
with sales to $86; Medium Holstein,
$35 to $50; Plain Holstein, $20 to
$35. A.J.K. Waechter, Walkerton,
consigned one black veal heifer
weighing 715 lbs. which sold to
Holly Park Meat Packers for $91.
Two holstein veal steers consigned
by Gerald Van Sickle, Thamesville,
averaged 713 lbs. selling to
Newmarket Meat Packers for $86.
Mark Pfeffer, Clifford, consigned
four holstein veal steers averaging
631 lbs. which sold to Newmarket
Meat Packers for $85.
Lambs, under 50 lbs., sold $172 to
$251; 50 - 64 lbs., $176 to $245; 65
- 79 lbs., $160 to $209; 80 - 94 lbs.,
$145 to $175; 95 - 109 lbs., $109 to
$132; 110 lbs. and over, $62 to $115.
Sheep sold $35 to $60.
Goats sold $30 to $137.50.
Top quality stocker steers, under
400 lbs., sold $100 to $115.50; 400 -
$77 to $105.50; 800 - 899 lbs., $74 to
$90; 900 - 999 lbs., $80 to $89; 1,000
lbs. and over, $70 to $87.25.
Top quality stocker heifers 400 -
499 lbs., sold $96 to $109; 500 - 599
lbs., $89 to $109.50; 600 - 699 lbs.,
$82 to $100.50; 700 - 799 lbs., $70 to
$92.50; 800 - 899 lbs., $70 to
$85.50; 900 lbs. and over, $70 to
$85.25.
There were 287 vaccinated calves
and yearlings which sold on a steady
market. Steers, 400 - 499 lbs., sold
$102 to $110; 500 - 599 lbs., $96 to
$98; 600 - 699 lbs., $84.50 to
$101.50; 700 - 799 lbs., $80 to
$106.50; 800 - 899 lbs., $86 to
$95.50; 900 - 999 lbs., $84 to
$85.57; 1,000 lbs. and over, $75.25
to $80.
Heifers, 400 - 499 lbs., sold $96 to
$102; 500 - 599 lbs., $82 to $99; 600
