The Blyth Atom Rep team was thrilled when they won the

If you drove on the country
roads in the area this past weekend
you may have noticed a lot of rural
mailboxes smashed or missing all
together. The mailbox smashers
were at it again on Friday night. I
really don't know what kick these
people get out of smashing
mailboxes. Some day they may be
on the other side.
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on April 4 were Donna and Lloyd
Sippel and Lois vanVliet.
Ushering was Karen Glousher.
Guest musician was Margaret Kai.
During the singing of the
children's hymn Come Children,
Join to Sing, the children
proceeded down the aisle waving
palm branches and Connor Brooks
rode on the donkey. Rev. Eugen
Bannerman told the children the
story of Jesus riding the donkey
into Jerusalem. He then asked the
children why Jesus rode on a
donkey and not in a horse-drawn
chariot. Rev. Bannerman told them
that the donkey was a poor man's
animal and every poor man could
afford to own a donkey.
The dramatized gospel reading
from Luke 23: 33-45 was read by
Wyatt Bearss and Rev.
Bannerman.
The responsive Psalm 118 was
led by 011ie Craig. The choir sang
the refrain.
Rev. Bannerman's message to
the adults was A Passion Film and
Passion Play. Mel Gibson's movie
The Passion of The Christ is about
the last two hours of Jesus's life.
Gibson wanted to show the people
the suffering that Jesus endured.
Many people after seeing the
movie have stopped to think of
what they had done and how it
affected others. It is reported that
many criminals have confessed of
crimes they had committed and are
willing to face their fate.
Jesus's suffering has been
portrayed for hundreds of years.
Passion plays bring to the people
the stories of Jesus. Many people
see how Jesus endured his
suffering and was able to show
love in spite of it.
Many.Passion plays are a tribute
to the life of Jesus.
The hymn Were you There was
sung while the congregation
remained seated.
April is Cancer Campaign
month. During this month
volunteers Doreen Siertsema,
Janice Peters, Jean Plaetzer, June
Patterson, Donna Govier, Carol
Casey, Vera Hesselwood and Mary
Lou Stewart will be canvassing the
ward of Blyth.
More volunteers are needed to
make this campaign a success.
Contact Mary Lou at 523-4528.
In memory
Scott Austin, right, presented the Jeremy Austin Memorial
Trophy to Blyth Bantam Johnathon McDowell at the Blyth
Minor Hockey banquet on March 31. The award is for the
most determined, enthusiastic player who is consistent in
their play. (Elyse DeBruyn photo)
