Auburn's150th Celebration's
children's program committee will
be holding a meeting on March 31 at
Knox United Church at 7:30 p.m.
Everyone is welcome and ideas
would be greatly appreciated.
Ethel and Daryl Ball spent one
week of vacation in Costa Rica.
They had a good time. It was hot and
they really enjoyed the sight-seeing
and the break from the everyday
routine. When they returned home
they were met with Mother Nature's
snowy revenge.
Marg Fraser, Tena Empey, Ethel
Ball and Irma Cartwright were at the
Suncoast Mall last Saturday selling
tickets for the Lone Star Quilt for the
I 50th Celebration.
Tickets can be purchased from
Irma Cartwright at 526-7256 or from
any one of the quilters.
At Knox United Church. on
Sunday Rev. Pat Cook's message
was an Extravagant Gift of Love.
Spiritual reading was Psalm 126 and
John 12: 1-8. The beef supper is at
Knox on April 7. There will he two
seatings. For more details contact
Shirley Andrews.
For those readers who have been
asking about darts here is an update.
K-W League play has been
completed with the Corestars.
winning. the Premier division.
Corestars consists of Andy Lubbers
and John Verwey from the Auburn
area.
For the Ladies Division, the Stray
Cats (Elaine Fraser's team)- won first
place and coming a very close third
(one point out of second place) was
the team of Heather Verwey, Audrey
Patterson, Deb Verwey, Anita Little,
Margo Richardson, Denise Caza and
Teresa Godfrey.
Tournament play has started and in
the Ladies Division the Stray Cats
won the division four-person team
play. For the men's division the
Corestars took second play.
April 2 is the division doubles
tournament.
The Ontario provincial team dart
tournament will be held on the
weekend of April 9 in St. Catharines.
Good luck to John Verwey, Heather
Verwey, Anita Little, Andy Lubbers,
Audrey Patterson, Ray Pigg, Sarah
Little, Murray Thompson, and
Elaine Fraser.
The Legion provincial dart
tournament will be held in Port
Rowan on April 16. Good luck to
John Verwey and Andy Lubbers who
will be competing in the doubles
division. John Verwey is also
competing in the singles and team
events.
Congratulations to Jean and
Lawrence Plaetzer on their 50th
wedding anniversary. There will be a
celebration on April 3 at the Blyth
Hall.

The Auburn. seniors met on
Wednesday, March 18. They had
dinner at Sticker's then journeyed on
to Sturzenegger farm and toured
their dairy barn, They returned to
Knox United Church for the meeting
and a light lunch. The tour was
arranged by Bill and Maxine Seers,
for all to see the modern way of
dairy farming.
The next meeting will be on April
21. It will be a tour of the Goderich
salt mine by video.
Meeting five of the Wawanosh
Smooth Stitchers 4-H Club took
place on March 2 at Catherine
Robinson's.
They opened the meeting with the
pledge. For roll call all the members
presented sewing projects.
June Robinson, the leader, showed
a hem clip and how it is used. She
also showed buttons made of
different materials - wood, bone, -
leather, metal, glass, plastic and
pearl.
Following this everyone sewed on
a button, snap and a hook.
June then showed them Velcro and
how it is used as a fastener.

Meeting six was at Catherine
Robinson's.
June brought a hem marker but
none of the members could guess
what it was. The air bulb blows
chalk on the. dress or skirt to mark
the hem.
Next June showed various samples
of how to decorate or add flair to a
clothing item. These included
appliqué, embroidered patches,
fancy buttons, hem add ons, fabric
paints and various trim. Some of the
trim was lace, flowered and
embroidered.
Special event
It was a big night at St. Helens Hall on Friday as Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell, centre,
along with Mary Ellen Jasper of the Trillium Fund grant review team, were one hand to present
a cheque valued at $16,200 to JoAnn Todd, left, for renovations to the Hall. (Vicky Bremner photo)
