PAGE Couple reads Lenten Tenebrae On the fifth Sunday of Lent, Don and Kittie MacGregor read the Lenten Tenebrae at Londesborough United Church. On the cross they hung a vial of perfume to represent Mary's gift of washing Christ's feet with perfumed oil days before His journey to the cross. The story of Mary's kindness is recounted in the gospel reading for the morning, John 12:1-8. The responsive psalm for March 28 was Psalm 126. David wrote of the joy the Israelites experienced on their return home after years of sorrow. Jenn Elliott was playing the organ for her last once-a-month service on March 28. She has been Barb Bosman's relief for the past three years. The congregation thanked her for providing musical accompaniment for their enjoyment over those months. The UCW meeting for April has a change of date to Monday, April 12. Ladies are invited to gather at Pianovations in Londesborough at 7:30 p.m. Leanne and Tamara will give a tour of their unique business. Following the talk, the rest of the meeting and lunch will be convened at the church. Coffee and conversation prior to the morning service will resume this coming Sunday, Palm Sunday. The senior choir will practise. at 10 a.m. As March draws to a close we have experienced, in the last couple of weeks, about three different seasons weather-wise - snow squalls, rain showers and warm temperatures. Personally I dislike the grey weather and grime that goes along News from HCPS The Grade 5 pupils began eight weeks of swimming instruction on Wednesday, March 24. They leave the school with Mr. Caldwell during the noon hour and have lessons at Vanastra. This program is made possible through a generous donation from the Blyth Legion. Hullett parent council volunteers were on hand on Thursday, March 25 for the yearly staff appreciation day. This is their way of saying to the staff that they, on behalf of the parents of pupils of Hullett Central, appreciate the efforts of the staff in educating their children and many times going that extra mile to help. The parent volunteers do yard duty and hall monitoring for the day to relieve staff of those responsibilities. Snacks are left in the staff room and lunch is served to the teachers giving them a free noon hour. The parent council feel this is small repayment for teachers' efforts. Students and staff hope to see everyone at their silent auction and kids' carnival next Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Lions fundraise for EST Centre At their last meeting on March 18, the Londesborough Lions Club heard a presentation from David Sparling and Mike MacDonald about the proposed fire training facility in Blyth. An initiative of the Blyth Fire Department, the facility, on donated land at the southeast corner of Blyth, will have a new fire station as well as training sites for firemen from all over Ontario. Proceeds from the April 4 Old Tyme Country Breakfast cooked by the Londesborough Lions club will be donated to this training facility. Have a hearty breakfast this Sunday for just $6 for adults and $3 for children and support the Blyth Firefighters as well. This facility could mean the difference between life and death for someone you know. with the disappearance of snow. With all the snow we did have, we can be grateful now major flooding occurred. Out for the mail one day along with a winter's worth of sand and trash I spotted my first robin for the spring and several clumps of snowdrops. Tundra swans chose a number of fields in the area to rest giving us all another reason to marvel over Mother Nature. The May 24 weekend has traditionally been yard sale time for the village. However my garage is overflowing and I have decided not to wait that long. I invite you to use my newspaper ads to clear out your housecleaning items by setting up your own tables on April 24.
