Melville congregation celebrates baptism
and Darryl Button, news is that He never gives up on us on being interrogated, confessed her Greeting at Melville Presbyterian
Church on Sunday morning were
Gerald and Isobel Gibson. The
flowers placed on the communion
table were in loving memory of Lois
Schneider from husband Mery and
her family.
As it was baptism Sunday, the
church was full of guests to honour
that event.
Rev. Cathrine Campbell led the
congregation in the Call to Worship.
During the congregational greeting
the eight-member junior choir sang

accompanied by their other two
children, carried the baby tp the front
for the sacrament. Uncle Bill King
stood with them as Lily Anne Grace
Button was baptized by Rev.
Campbell.
Concluding the ceremony, the
Aaronic Blessing was sung b j
everyone. Karla is the daughter of
the late Bill and Joanne King wht
were much respected members of
the church.
The scripture lessons of Joshua 5:
10 - 12; 2 Corinthians 5: 16 - 21 and
Luke 15: 11 - 32 were read, by Rev.
Campbell, assisted by reader Frank
Schimanski.
The sermon The "-Reconciliation
referred to the parable of the
prodigal son from the Luke reading.
"It isn't a story of a lost son," Rev.
Campbell said. "He knew where he
was, and he also knew where his
father was and what he would say to
his father when he returned
home. It's a story of a father's
forgiveness."
There was plenty of need for
forgiveness, Rev. Campbell said.
The younger son who took his
inheritance had ended his
relationship with his father through
this action. After wild spending and
loose living he was lost in poverty
and destitution.
The older son was petulant and
stubborn, nursing many grievances,
and his perception of life with his
father was of duty, not delight.
By contrast, the father's reaction
to his errant son returning was to kill
the fatted calf, throw an all-out party
and welcome him home with
warmth, delight and no hesitation.
"That is how it is with us and
God," said Rev. Campbell. "Being
estranged from God is the ultimate
feeling of being lost, but we can
always find him again. The good
and this is cause for great
celebration".
Collection was taken up by Bill
King, Frank Schimanski, Doug
McArter and Maurice Douma.

Melville Moments by Gerald
Gibson
In 1887, Reverend John Ross the
moderator appointed Elder Duncan
McLaughlin to cite a woman of the
congregation to appear before the
session and answer for her sin of
fornication. She, being within the
church, was asked to present herself
before the session which she did and
sin and expressed sorrow for the
same.
The moderator then with the
decision of the - session solemnly
admonished her, pointing out the
error of her sin and exhorting her to
seek the pardoning mercy of God in
Christ Jesus and to seek divine grace
that henceforth she might walk in the
way of Christian virtue and true
holiness.
They further suspended her from
the fellowship of the church until
such time as the session might assure
itself of the genuineness of her
repentance.
