The easels hold easy-to-read "big books," making it even more fun for the children to read during circle time, however Nick Zwep was just too excited to wait to read The Cat in the Hat. Some local men enjoyed a trip to Daytona. Paul Ryan, Mike Devereaux, Doug Bauer and another friend drove as far as Daytona trailering their motorcycles. They attended the huge bike show there, then took the bikes on a tour of Florida. Also returning from a trip to Florida were David and Joan Perrie. They stayed at Citrus Park near 'Bonita Springs in southern Florida. They had a good drive down and enjoyed good weather most of the time. The market garden near their park allowed them to pick fresh produce almost everyday. Having a great family vacation were Rob, Brenda, Jody and Nicole McIntosh. They travelled to Varadaro, Cuba for a week of fun. sun and food. They had a great time enjoying water sports and had a memorable experience of swimming with the dolphins. We are happy to report that Betty McCall has been released from hospital and is recovering at home. We wish her continued health improvements. It's time to say goodbye to the cook at Walton Inn. Brenda Finlayson will soon return to her job 'in Seaforth. Joyce Marcuccio is the new head chef at the Inn. Good luck to both ladies in their old and new endeavours. We offer our congratulations to Brian McGavin who was named first vice-president of the Ontario Retail Farm Equipment Dealers' Association. He attended the Convention inNiagara Falls and we wish him the best with his new position. More congratulations go out to the staff of the Walton Little School. They were recipients of the Women of Distinction award sponsored by the Women Today of Huron, in recognition of International Women's Included in the recognition were Shannon McGavin. Sandra McNichol, Debbie Budna, Michelle Blake, Naomi Pelss, Val Shortreed, Trace Schelken and Jennifer Bere. The/ were recognized for their care and dedication to early literacy in the daily activities at Walton Little School. Congratulations also goes to Michelle Blake for her nomination for the Women of Distinction award. She was nominated because of her work as an educational assistant part-time at Walton Little School and for her many years of teaching skating at Wingham and Brussels, 20 years and at Blyth for 18 years. We congratulate Michelle on her Children celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday The Walton Little School school- aged children enjoyed celebrating Dr. Seuss's 100th birthday during the March break program. They baked a cake, made 'Yertle the Turtles, ate green eggs, had a Hop on Pop jumping contest, read many Dr. Seuss books, painted their feet and watched a Dr. Seuss movie. They were busy, but what fun they had. They are looking forward to their hake sale next week. dedication to working with children and her nomination. What a wonderful milestone celebrated by Martin and Catharine Baan. They have reached their 65th wedding anniversary. They have resided in the Walton area since 1951 and have four children. Attending the family celebration dinner at the Auburn Missionary Church were their children John, wife Mary and Dave and wife Dianne all of Walton, Gerald and wife Doreen of New Hamburg and daughter Nellie and husband Howard Booker of Sprague. Most of the grandchildren and great- grandchildren were in attendance. A great time was enjoyed by all. Family slides of earlier years were shown. Congratulations to Martin and Catharine on this wonderful milestone. Krista Shortreed travelled with the Seaforth District All Girls Marching Band to Florida. Brussels girls Miss Aitchison, Miss Deitner and Miss Roetcisoender also were on the trip. They had great weather, even hot, and enjoyed themselves immensely. They were away 10 days and were kept busy. Their first performance was on Saturday at Busch Gardens. their highlight performance was to lead the Disney parade at the Magic Kingdom before 100,000 spectators on Sunday. Rounding out the week was a trip to a National Hockey League game (Tampa Bay Lightning vs. New York Rangers) a Blue Jays game and a day at the Magic Kingdom to enjoy the rides and shows. They are looking for new members. A salute to those Walton-area folks who received recognition in the special supplement to The Citizen, On the Farm. There were great stories on Lisa Stevenson, daughter of Jim and Evelyn Blake; Charles Gulutzen, son of Pauline and the late Alex Gulutzen; Sylvia Nonkes, the daughter of Abe and Frances Vanderveen; Dave Lewington and Martin Baan. A diverse representation of the entrepreneurship from our area. Our condolences and deepest '• sympathy to Alvin McDonald and dadghter Lynn and John Davies on the. loss of wife and mother Vera McDonald. Also to grandchildren Chris and Shannon and all the extended family members.
