Lueio adds to award-winning career By Elyse DeBruyn Citizen staff Through dedication and talent, a local, yet world-famous craftsman earned two first-place awards at a recent show in Kitchener. Jason Lucio of Auburn is a full- time carver and instructor who creates beautiful, life-like wooden birds and was noted for his talent at the Canadian National Championships sponsored by the Grand Valley Wood Carvers at Bingeman's Park in Kitchener on March 12-14. • His 20 years of experience helped him win first place for a Sharp Shinned Hawk and a Spotted Sandpiper (a type of shore bird) as By Elyse DeBruyn Citizen staff From spring to winter was the feeling last week as the strange weather couldn't quite decide on a season. Early last week's warm spring temperatures suddenly dropped by Friday, giving parts, of Huron and Bruce Counties another icy, snow- covered day. On top of that I can go at my own pace at my own schedule, which can have a down side if you aren't diligent enough," he said. He said he goes bird watching, Taylor of Blyth, said another "Alberta Clipper" caused the sudden change in weather. He said highways were closed across Canada from Manitoba all the way to northern Ontario. ' "This winter has plagued us with Alberta Clippers." he said. Taylor said the clippers are organized in the foothills and follow one another across the Canadian and U.S. border. "We are just going to have to put hiking and canoeing as well as uses photos to capture the life-like look of his master pieces. Time, dedi'cation and a steady hand helped him create his masterpieces. First, he carves the wood into the form of a bird then does all the detailed work like realistic looking feathers, eyes and feet. Finally he paints his art with high realism paint to bring his sculptures to life. He said the Sharp Shinned Hawk is on a pedestal making it two-feet high and 12-13 inches long. Huron OPP are continuing the investigation into a two-vehicle crash that occurred on County Rd. 25 (Blyth Road) on March 12. Two males wearing dark coloured masks entered the bank armed with weapons while the third stayed outside in a waiting vehicle. One witness obtained the plate number of the vehicle. Officers are looking for a green 1995 Jeep Cherokee with plate number His early carvings were mainly waterfowl but has expanded to include all order of birds like owls, shorebirds, songbirds, hawks and herons. He has a great fondness for the birds he carves and enjoys studying and observing them in their natural habitat. Lucio also holds seminars to help others learn how to become carvers. The driver of the van and his son received minor injuries and were later released from the Seaforth Ptiblic Hospital. The father, 38, and his son, 11, were on-their way to a hockey game in Goderich for Young Canada Week. They were from Logan Twp. Officers have determined that the driver of the Sunfire was not wearing his seatbelt. ANAA-486. This vehicle was stolen from a residence in the City of London earlier that day. Citizens are asked to keep a look out for this vehicle and call police with its whereabouts. All three suspects are considered armed and dangerous so don't approach the Jeep.
