They listened to speakers on the updated information that concerns dairy producers today. Returning from a trip to Florida were Jim and Evelyn Blake and Nick and Cathy Terpstra. They enjoyed a relaxing and great time at Kissimmee. They drove down and were able to look around the area, take a trip over to the ocean side of the state and stroll through the flea Continued on page 18 FROM WALTON Ladies greet at Duff's On the third Sunday of Lent, worshippers at Duff's United Church were greeted by Leona McDonald and Brenda Linton. Guest speaker Neil Lackey of the Ministry and Support Committee, noted the flowers adorning the sanctuary were in memory of Dianne vanVliet. The time for the young-at-heart was done by Jo-Ann Mcdonald. She showed the children two plants, one in bloom and one that didn't look as healthy. She asked the children what was needed to make them grow - water, sunshine, good dirt, and fertilizer. Jo-Ann told them the parable of the fig tree that yielded no fruit for three years. The owner told the gardener to cut it down, but the gardener convinced the man to let him add more manure and care for it one more year. God is like a gardener she said, patient and loving, providing so people can grow strong and healthy. The choir sang the anthem Spirit. Spirit of Gentleness. Mr. Lacky read the scriptures that led to his reflection The Grace in Manure or Fertile Ministries. He said that God is addressing people every day in some way. As from the parable of the fig tree, by adding manure, the fig three thrived and did bear fruit. Christians need to add manure to have the congregation grow in its faith. If all work together to gather and share materials, ideas, and conversation, it can only help the congregation to grow. There is a strong need for communication within the church, amongst its members. Concerns should be taken to the Ministry and Personnel Committee and they in turn investigate the resources available to the church. The offering was collected by Ian Wilbee and Lavern Godkin. Prior to the prayers of the people, Mr. Lackey asked the congregation to all move to the centre pews of the church. When gathered as a whole group, it was an uplifting experience and he challenged all to continue a practice of sitting together, rather than apart. Good turnout for Early Years The Ontario Early Years program had a good turnout of children and caregivers on Wednesday morning. They had an active time of learning and circle time was about finger families and they learned the opposites up/down and in/out. They Rig-a-Jig Jigged with friends, built huge straw buildings and played under the parachute tent. They had a great day. Walton residents started the week off with a large gathering of family and friends for the celebration of Remembrance for Dianne vanVliet. Duff's United Church was full upstairs and down, as the many mourned the passing of this truly remarkable woman. Rev. Randy Banks conducted the service along with Rev. Michael Atkins of the Anglican Church in Seaforth. The eulogy was given by Bryan Vincent who described a young woman who strived to do well at all she endeavored, an avid student, an enthusiastic 4-H member, a reliable OMAF employee and a dedicated teacher. She faced her struggle with courage, a strong will and an attitude that all would admire. Our condolences and deepest sympathy to John and Andrew and the Oldfield and vanVliet families. We welcome back Mary Humphries who was away on a childcare holiday. She stayed at daughter Kim's for five days to enjoy her grandson's company. Bryce and Andrew enjoyed grandma's cooking and company also. While Mary enjoyed her time in Bayfield, Kim and George were enjoying the tropical weather of Cuba. We send get-well wishes to some area ladies. In Seaforth hospital are both Mary McCall and Betty McCall. We hope both are feeling better and will be home soon. Our condolences to the family of Effie McCall who passed away last week. She was always a cheerful and upbeat lady who enjoyed playing cards and having fun. There were local area men participating in the corn bonspiel hosted at Vanastra Curling Club last Saturday. A member of the winning team was Geoff Dalton. He played with Jerry Walters, Doug Smale and Kevin Henderson. Other Daltons participating were Kelly, Jamie and KellyAnn. Walton friends were saddened yet again with the news of Lois Schneider's passing. Lois will be remembered as a favourite waitress of the Walton Inn as well as an avid member of the Walton Women's Institute. Her quick smile and friendly ways will always be remembered. Our deepest sympathy and condolences to husband Mery and all their families. Jean Bewley was off to Toronto to the Canada Blooms show last week. She reports it was wonderful. Judy Lee and Jo-Ann McDonald travelled to the flower show held at the Stratford Coliseum. It was very crowded and there were lots of interesting displays. Returning from a trip to the Dominican Republic were Brian Black and Joan Tuchlinsky. They stayed at Punta Cana. It Was good weather so they could enjoy beach volleyball, games and watersports. Nights included lots of dancing. They even ran into Brussels couple Jim and Lynn Jutzi. It's always amazing how that can happen. Ron Stevenson attended the Large Herd Dairy Symposium held at the Four Points Sheraton in London last week for three days. He was a representative of Pfizer Animal Health. This symposium was attended by local vets and dairy
