On Wednesday, April 14, North
Huron Wescast Community
Complex will be the site of the
Huron Tourism Association's 15th
Annual Tourism Event and Brochure
Swap. The event this year is in
partnership with the Counties of
Huron, Grey, Bruce and the City of
Owen Sound.
The afternoon event will feature a-
representative from the Ministry of
Tourism and Recreation who will be
present to discuss the Ministry's
marketing plans and provincial
perspective. Themes for the other
professional guest speakers will be
"Shakespeare to the Shoreline";
"Grey — Bruce Challenge"; and
"Hometown, Health and Humour".
As with other years, a major
component of the day will be the
Brochure Swap; this provides
registrants with the opportunity to
distribute their promotional
literature to other businesses and
promoters.
The new 2004 Huron County
Travel Guide will be available for
pickup that day along with the
Fishing, Cycling, Hiking, Heritage
and Culture and the Tastes of Huron
brochures. These Huron County
publications along with promotional
material from the Counties of Grey,
Bruce and the City of Owen Sound
will be available to registrants in
large =quantities in order that they
will have literature to hand out to
visiting tourists.
Tourism development is essential
to the growth and survival of the Tri-
Counties economy. It represents one
of the largest economic generators in
the area.
The mandate of the Huron
Tourism Association is to develop
and target cost-effective and result-
oriented tourism strategies within
Huron County. Being a
membership-based action
organization members have equal
input into association business and
can voice their ideas and concerns at
monthly meetings. These meetings
another $3,500," said Breckenridge.
"We hope to raise $3,500 prior to the
event."
Councillor Jim Nelemans thought
the loan was a good idea.
"I like the loan idea, it makes
everyone look more
responsible,"said Nelemans.
Breckenridge then asked for
permission to advertise on the
Morris-Turnberry website, and
asked if council would be willing to
let the committee use the township
logo on their advertising if they
receive a loan.
He told council that the committee
has approached 35 local businesses
for money donations and items for
the silent auctions.
"Proceeds haven't started rolling
in,,yet, but hopefully they will," he
said.
A parade is one of many events
the committee is planning, but
Breckenridge said he and three
others on the parade committee,
haven't set up a parade before and
wondered if council would be able
to steer them in the right direction
and explain what needs to be done.

tour of North Huron and South
Bruce, a hot btiffet lunch, seminars,

and brochures, and refreshments.
The public is welcome to drop in
between 4 and 5 p.m. to participate

Association, please contact either
Marie McGuire or Cindy Fisher at
the Huron County Planning and
Development Department — 519-

He wasn't sure if the police or the
township is responsible for shutting
the street down during the parade.
Nancy Michie, clerk-treasurer for
Morris-Turnberry, advised
Breckenridge to submit a request in
writing to have the roads closed and
include in it the grant or loan
application.

Big events are scheduled for
Bluevale's 150th anniversary as
well as the Old Boy Reunion this
summer and Morris-Turnberry
council has been asked for
donations.
Jason Breckenridge from the
Bluevale recreation committee,
approached Morris-Turnberry
council on March 2 concerning
flyers and donations for the
celebration on the July 24 weekend.
He said that the township has given
the committee grants in the past and
wondered if they would be willing
to give another grant, loan or even
both this year to help cover some
costs including tents and liquor
expenses.
He said the committee has $3,000
in the expense account already with
hopes of raising $2,500 more
through fundraising events and
advanced ticket sales.
"If we sell three-quarters (of the)
tickets in advance, -that will pay an
extra $3,000, leaving us shy about
