Obituaries
CHARLES BRIGHAM
Mr. Charles Ralph Brigham, age
73, of 561 Albert St., Stratford,
passed away peacefully at the
Stratford General Hospital on
Thursday, March 4, 2004.
He was the beloved husband of
Dian and loving father of John
Brigham and wife Shelley, Chris
Brigham and wife Brenda, Sarnia.
He was the grandfather of Carrie
(Randy), Jason, Kelly, Daniel,
Jennifer, Mary Beth, Kendra, and
Gordon. Mr. Brigham was
predeceased by his children Kathy,
Doug, Anita and Jim, by a brother
Ken and by his parents James and
Elsie Brigham.
Cremation will take place with a
private family service at Blyth
Union Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy,
memorial donations may be made to
the Heart and Stroke Foundation or
to the Canadian Diabetes
Association through the W.G. Young
Funeral, 430 Huron St., Stratford.
ETHEL SUTTON
Ethel Sutton, passed away
peacefully at Listowel Memorial
Hospital on Monday, March I, 2004.
She resided in Ethel and was born
88 years ago; a daughter of the late
Samuel and Marguerite (Cuthbert)
Whitehouse.
Ethel was an active member of the
Royal Canadian Legion Ladies
Auxiliary Branch 218, Brussels, a
life member of the Brampton Lions,
a member of the Sweet Adelines of
Brampton-Bramalea, a member of
the White Shrine of Jerusalem in
Bradenton Florida, a member of the
Hi-12 Club of Bradenton Florida,
and always found time to use her
musical talents in the Ethel church
choir.
She was the beloved wife of Alf
Sutton whom she married in 1934.
She will be lovingly remembered by
many nieces and nephews.
Ethel was predeceased by her
daughter Muriel Sutton in 1998, her
brothers and sisters Maude and
Doug Anthony, May and Albert
Godden, Ernest Whitehouse and
Edwin Whitehouse.
Ethel and AIf's family received
relatives and friends at the Peebles
Funeral Home, 141 John St.,
Atwood, on Thursday, March 4 and
at the Ethel United Church on
Friday, March 5 from 1 p.m. until the
time of service at 2 p.m. Rev. Joan
Golden officiated.
Spring interment will be in Mount
Pleasant Cemetery, Ethel.

DIANNE VANVLIET
Dianne Elizabeth (Oldfield)
vanVliet, age 44, of RRI, Walton,
passed away peacefully on Friday,
March 5, 2004 at Clinton Public
Hospital.
She was the loved wife of John
vanVliet and cherished mother of
Andrew vanVliet. She was the
beloved daughter of John and Leona
(Smith) Oldfield of RR4, Seaforth
and will be lovingly remembered by
her brother Brian Oldfield of RR4,
Seaforth. She was the dear sister-in-
law of Debbie and Frank Claessens
of Campbellville, Janis and Brian
McCooey of Fort Erie and Joyanne
and Duane Derreck of St.
Catharines. Dianne was the special
aunt of five nieces and two nephews
and will be fondly remembered by
her step-mother-in-law, Joan
vanVliet, and her daughter Shelley
and husband Lawrence Miller and
their family, all of Listowel. She is
also survived by several aunts;
uncles and cousins.
Dianne was predeceased by her
parents-in-law, Joyce and Jan
vanVliet.
Family received friends at the
Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home,
Seaforth on Sunday from 7 - 9 p.m.
and Monday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9
p.m. The funeral service was held at
Duff's United Church, Walton on
Tuesday, March 9 at 2 p.m. Rev.
Randy Banks and Rev. Michael
Atkins officiated.
Pallbearers were Rodney Hinz,
Brad MacLean, Bryan Vincent,
Kevin Dutot, Rob Essery, Wayne
Denham, Jim McNichol and Jim
Campbell.
Flowerbearers were Jennifer and
Michelle Claessens, Amanda and
Meghan McCooey, Loretta and
Jocelyn Hinz and Aleshia Miller.
Interment will be in Brussels
Cemetery.

(CCAC), Canadian Cancer Society,
Duff's United Church, Walton or St.

JOAN MARY WISSLER
Mrs. Joan Wissler of Wingham
passed away at Wingham & District
Hospital on Tuesday, March 2, 2004.
She was 70.
The former Joan Wilkinson was
the beloved wife of the late Earl
Harrison (1959) and the late Len
Wissler (1978). She was the dear
mother of Jane and Lorne Draper
and John and Julie Harrison, all of
Brussels, Barbara and Ray Purdy of
Sarnia and Leanne and Bruce Langer
of Listowel. She is also survived by
13 grandchildren, eight great-
grandchildren, her sisters Marjorie
McKenzie of Wingham, Donna
Wilson of Kincardine and Sharon
and George Skinn of Wingham, as
well as by several nieces and
nephews.
Mrs. Wissler was predeceased by
The March meeting of the Brussels
UCW met at the home of Nelva Scott
with six members present.
Mrs. Scott opened the meeting
with the UCW Purpose. Gertie
Kellington opened the devotions
with a prayer. Sarah Stephenson read
the scripture from Matthew 7: 24-29;
describing the two house builders,
the wise man and the foolish man.
Verses one and two of How Firm a
Foundation was sung.
Mrs. Kellington read a meditation
describing two situations, one of an
Easter window dressing and the
other about a shabby home builder.
Both referred back to the scripture in
Matthew.
Mrs. Scott presided for the
business portion of the meeting and
began with reviewing the February
meeting notes. Items discussed
included a report on the UCW
Presbyterial held in Kirkton, and the
her parents Margaret (Mighton) and
Kenneth Wilkinson and by her
children Belle Ann and Bobby
Harrison.
Visitation was at the McBurney
Funeral Home, Wingham on
Thursday, March 4 from 2 - 4 and 7
- 9 p.m. The funeral service was held
at the funeral home on Friday at 11
a.m. Rev. Sharon Lohnes officiated.
Interment will be in Culross-
Teeswater Cemetery, Culross Twp.
Memorial donations to The
Canadian Cancer Society or
Wingham and Area Palliative Care
would be appreciated as expressions
of sympathy.
Garden Party for May 30. There will
be no hot luncheon in March.
Isabelle Wheeler gave the
treasurer's report.
Information regarding camping at
Camp Menesetung in 2004 included
dates for special camping, an April
17 tea and talk to find out about
adopting a cabin program, the 2004
wish list, and the need for cookies. It
was decided to send Camp
Menesetung a donation as well as
pay half of camp registration.
Other donations were discussed as
well.
Mrs. Scott gave a report from the
stewards' meeting.
The next meeting will be held at
Huronlea in the fireplace area. The
meeting time is changed to 7 p.m.
Karen Cardiff and Audrey Cardiff
are in charge of the program with
Mrs. Kellington and Mrs. Scott in
charge of lunch.
