The Ontario Superior Court of
Justice in Toronto has approved the
sale of the assets of Acre T Farms
Ltd.
The decision allows KPMG Inc.,
the court-appointed monitor, to
undertake a formal process to sell
Acre T's early wean operation and
some or all of its other assets,
including approximately 5,385 acres

facility for barn construction and
repair and its related parts inventory.
It is anticipated that a going concern
sale will result from this pro-
ess.

also granted a stay of proceedings to

ties brought on, in part, by a
depressed market- for hogs and

Acre T Farms Ltd., a leading
Ontario hog producer, was founded
in 1982 by Joe and Miriam Terpstra,
and grew into a multi-million dollar
operation.
At the time Acre T-sought CCAA
protection it had been a full 15,000
sow hog production loop, control-
ling all phases of production - sow,
nursery, finishing and sow replace-
ment - through to market sale. Early
weans were sent to third party nurs-
eries and then to the company's fin-
ishing barns, or third-party finishing

Acre T would have a greater chance
of survival in the short-term as a
producer of early weans, rather than
finished hogs.
The court at that time approved
the process for transforming Acre T
into an early wean operation. The
judge also sanctioned Acre T's right
to repudiate contracts with its nurs-
ery and growing contractors once
the hogs in their care had passed
through the nursery or finishing
stage.
On Monday the court was told that
since the transformation to an early
wean operation began the company
has reduced its inventory of hogs
and weaners from about 120,000
pigs on Jan. 4 to about 72,000 on
Feb. 15. This process will be com-
plete by early May when the remain-
ing hogs in the loop have been sent
