On the second Sunday of Lent,
Duff's congregation was welcomed
by Jo-Ann McDonald.
Guest speaker Barb Hicks turned
the floor to Marie McGavin who had
the sad announcement of the passing
of Dianne vanVliet. She expressed
sincere condolences to the vanVliet
and Oldfield families.
Announcements included the
many opportunities for youth.
Information is on the bulletin board
or from Joan Tuchlinsky. Rev. Joan
is away until March 14.
There were 13 children gathered at
the front of the church to listen to
time for the young at heart by
Marcia Campbell. She had two
brainteaser games that she had some
of the children try and do. They said
they were difficult.
Marcia asked them if they had
something that was hard to do —
sure.
Away to attend the Ontario
Plowmen's • Association annual
meeting were Neil and Marie
McGavin and Graeme and Helen
Craig. They were in Owen Sound
from Thursday to Sunday. Graeme is
a newly-elected member of the
Huron County Plowmen's
Association and that Association
nominated Neil McGavin to be an
Honorary director of the Ontario
Plowmen's Association. We
congratulate both Graeme and Neil
on their new positions.
Our condolences to Donna Knight
and Jack and family on the passing
of Donna's sister Mildred (Molly).

puzzles and reading. She then asked
them how they try to get better and
replies included practise, studying
and getting help from others.
Marc ;a asked how they felt when
they succeeded and they said they
felt good about themselves. When
people feel good about themselves,
they can share that good feeling with
others, she said.
The Ontario Early Years program
had some new attendees this past
week. Caregivers and children six
months to five years are always
month on their snowmobiles. They
travelled to Manitoulin Wand, then
went by machine to North Channel
and to Elliott Lake where, they
stayed at Wilderness Lodge and
visited with friends.
They also spent a weekend
snowmobiling around the Port Elgin
area and spent lots of time on the
area traits as well.
February was a great month for
snowmobiling and they were glad to
be able to enjoy it as March isn't
looking too great so far.

Stevenson. He was attending the
Ontario Cattlemen's Association
annual meeting at the International

The scripture reading was
delivered by Monique Baan.
Barb Hicks's reflection was
entitled Only A Friend Betrays. She
reflected that Lent is a time for
growth and changes, a time for
reflection, remembrance and
thinking of spiritual matters and
giving up a material thing. Jesus
spent three years preparing the
disciples, his friends, for what was
welcome to drop in on Wednesday
from 10 - 11:30 a.m. at Duff's
United Church.
This past week Sadie And. The
Snowman was the featured book of
the day. During the story, the
children were encouraged to 'roll'
along with the story character.
Parents shared information on how
to interpret favourite - stories and
develop learning activities.

The Walton Little School Shining
Star class has had a great time
learning about family and friends.
They created a huge display of their
family tree and designed a paper
quilt with pictures of their families.
They have moved on to learning
about the farm. They are having
great fun dressing up as farmers and
farm animals, and learning about life
on the farm.

to happen to him.
Palm Sunday began a week of
significant events for them. Jesus
began his journey into Jerusalem,
the people laid palm leaves on the
road and crowds of people sang and
praised him.
Jesus healed the blind man and
arrived at the temple to find the tax
collectors and chief priests holding
court and festivities.
The priests watched Jesus and his
disciples and were envious and
jealous of Jesus's effect on the
people. They tried to find fault with
Jesus after he became angry and
threw the tax collectors from the
temple.
But it was Jesus's friends, his
disciples, who betrayed him when
the soldiers came to the garden, not
the priests or people.
The offering was collected by
Karen Hoegy and Ian Wilbee.

Presto, I'm a chair
The improv class at the Sears Drama Festival had students
thinking and moving quickly. From being a motorcycle to a
chair, such as these two young men, participants had to
find ways to shape themselves with virtually no time to think
about it. (Bonnie Gropp photo)
