by Living Water Christian
Fellowship Church on Friday,
March 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Blyth
Public School. Heather Elliott was
the special musical guest, from
Blyth United Church and the guest
speaker was Nancy Jardin from.
Trinity Anglican Church. Nancy's
message was happiness and that
each person is a grain of sand and
can make a difference.
As I look out my window this
morning I see that winter has
returned but not for long I hope. The
old timers tell me that this is just a
sugar snow. The snowmobile trail
has all but disappeared. The
snowmobiles have had a good
season with lots of snow.
The 8th Liners gathered at the
home of Avon and Al Corneil to help
them celebrate their 25th
anniversary much belated. A good
time was had by all.
Sorry to hear Mary Walden is a
patient in Wingham hospital. We
also hear that Effie McCall is not
feeling well. To both of these
women we hope they are feeling
better soon.
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on March 7 were Barb and Doug
Howson. Guest musician was Lynda
McGregor.
The choir anthem was We Shall
Go Out with Hope of Resurrection.
Rev. Eugen Bannerman's story to
the children was all the different
wants to say the alphabet. You can
say it frontwards, backwards, you
can sing it and say it while laughing.

and buying new pots.
The April event is Monday, April
19 at North Street United Church,
Goderich.
The next meeting is Thursday,
March 25 at 2 p.m.
The Dramatized gospel reading
from Luke 13: 31-35 was read by
Wyatt Bearss and Rev. Bannerman.
The teachers and children went
down .to Sunday school. The
lectionary reading was from Genesis
15: 1-12 followed by the Responsive
Psalm 27 with the choir singing the
refrain.
Rev. Bannerman's message to the
adults was When Jesus Was Angry.
Why did Jesus call Herod a fox? Fox
refers to a cunning but weak ruler
and was often used as a contrast with
a majestic animal like the lion. In
calling Herod a fox, Jesus gives vent
to his own feelings about the cruel
and crafty ruler. Jesus is undeterred
by Herod's threat . and uses
remarkable language to express his
calm determination to continue His
work, one day at a time, until the
finish.
Mait and Mary Edgar, Bev and
new son Jayden Park of Petrolia and
Irlma Edgar of Wingham had visited
with Helen Stonehouse of Belgrave
on Thursday, March 4. Also visiting
for the afternoon were Shannon and
new daughter Emily Bieman of
Belgrave.
A former resident of Belgrave and
now residing in Blyth for the past 42
years, Ralph McCrea celebrated his
80th birthday on Saturday, March 6
at an open house at the.Blyth United
Church Hall.
Mr. McCrea was born at Belgrave,
the son of Niel and Vera McCrea. He
attended USS#17 at Belgrave. After
finishing school he worked on the
farm of C.R. Coultes and family
until he joined the armed forces.
He spent from January 1942 to
November 1943 with the Royal
Canadian Engineers based at
Chiliwack, B.C. and Wainwright,
Alberta. He then went to the east
coast at Debert, Nova Scotia before
proceeding overseas to England.
There he was transferred to Highland
Light Infantry until the end of
hostilities in Europe. He volunteered
for Pacific duty, landing home to
Canada in July 1945. Upon arrival he
was transferred to the Royal
Canadian Regiment based in Barrie.
Shortly after arriving in Canada
word was received of the end of
hostilities in the Pacific and Mr.
McCrea was honourably discharged
from the armed forces in April 1946.
After returning home he worked
for Charlie Couites and family for a
few months, then joined Ray Hanna
on construction work, doing mostly
concrete work, repairs to bridges,
sidewalks, etc.
In the early 50s he started into
carpentry with 4 Goderich firm and
in 1954 started work at A. Manning
& Sons lumber and building
business where he stayed for 28
years.
Later Mr. McCrea started doing
carpentry work on his own,
continuing in that field until
retirement.
In June he and the former Amy
Smith will have been married 50
years. They have a son Doug,
married to Betty Jean, now of St.
Thomas and daughter Maureen, wife
of Brad Montgomery of RR I, Blyth.
Mr. McCrea also has five
grandchildren and five great-
