Our thanks
A group of parents put together a special event at Brussels
Public School to thank the staff for its dedication and hard
work. Following a lunch prepared by the parents, each
teacher was presented with a rose by her students. Making
the presentation to kindergarten teacher Mary Hall, were:
Austin Johnston and Kailey Wheeler. (Bonnie Gropp photo)

At the Branch
By Jo-Ann McDonald
It was a week of sadness around
the Brussels Legion Branch with the
loss of loved ones for two of our
comrades.
Nineteen comrades attended the
Auxiliary/Legion service for Ethel
'Sutton at the Peebles Funeral Home
in Atwood on Thursday evening.
Comrade Padre Joan Golden led the
service. Our condolences to
Comrade Alf Sutton and his
extended family members.
Condolences as well to Comrades
John and Julie Harrison and family
on the loss of John's mother Joan
Wissler. Many comrades and friends
paid their respects at McBurney
Funeral Home in Wingham
following the service attended in
Atwood.
There were only eight attending
darts, on Thursday evening. The
first-place team was Bill
Kammerman and Lawrence
Machan. There was a tie for second
between single players Sandra
Josling and Lisa Glanville. The high
score for the men was shot by Bill
Kammerman with 129 and Lisa
Glanville for the ladies with 123
points.
The Friday night supper of
chicken legs was attended by a good
crowd. This week is meatloaf.
On Saturday, Sandra Josling, Lisa
Glanville, Helen Dobson, Grace
Proctor, Judy Lce, Lloyd Glanville,
Julie Harrison and Jo-Ann
McDonald gathered in the kitchen
for the cooking bee. Thanks for all
the donations. They were put to
good use. They prepared meals for
the coming months including

The Ides of March are upon us
with whatever that means in your
life. For some it may mean time to
get ready for more birthdays, for
others it may be preparation time for
school break and for others'life goes
on just as with any other month.
For the Irish descendants it's time
to fluff the green wardrobe and
practise the Irish ditties for your day
is fast approaching.
So be bold and celebrate your
heritage even if it's from many years
past. A little fun and frivolity is
always a good thing in March so
perhaps next year to make March
really worthwhile you could start the
celebrations early with a rousing St.
David's Day with St. Patrick's Day
as the grand finale to the green, even
if you have to pretend you're Irish -
enjoy the company of the
leprechauns.
At this time of year often a
seemingly small thing can make a
day brighter. On Sunday at the
United Church the members of the
confirmation class led the worship,
then served lunch to the
congregation.
Each one offered their part in
a dignified manner and toge-
ther a meaningful worship was
offered.
Well done Wade, Travis,
Christopher, Kerri, Zach, Lindsay,
Nathan, Ryan and Jordan. Your good
attitude and effort were a ray of
sunshine on a snowy day.
The World Day of Prayer was well
attended at the Anglican Church on
Friday night. The first meeting was
held in 1922 and has continued
yearly since, in more than 170
countries. The one worship service
is piepared by women of different
countries, this year Panama, and is
now used in more than 2,000
communities.
The work started years ago is still
relevant, always informative and
pretty impressive.
Have you got your income tax
papers all gathered and ready to go.
Where did that year and that money
go?
Bye now, Betty G.W.
lasagna, goulash, pizza casserole,
stew and Chinese casserole.
Comrade Rick McDonald
attended a seminar in Listowel on
Saturday on Leadership and
Planning and financial affairs of the
branches. With all branches
struggling, every source of help in
financial matters needs to be
explored and information shared
among the branches. It was a very
informative day.
Comrades Norm Dobson and Rick
and Jo-Ann McDonald attended the
Zone Spring C-1 convention at
Mitchell Legion on Sunday
afternoon. There were over 80
comrades from the 13 branches
represented. A turkey dinner was
available following the meeting.
Keep those pop tabs coming in.
We have almost enough to send to
Elora. They have purchased over
400 wheelchairs from this very
worthwhile collection.
There are only six weeks left until
elections will be held. More
comrades are needed to sit on the
executive.
